Spring Game

1. Not sure. I'm sure wyovision will be making a highlight video soon.
2. I won't dive into a lot of details, I'm sure the stats and interviews will go deeper. But here's some of my bold takeaways:
Josh Allen is a much better playmaker than Coffman. He's Brett Smith-like in the sense that he can break tackles and make plays. His first touchdown was spetacular. He held on to the ball too long at times and looked a little clumsy on handoff, so I guess that warrants Coffman starting. But holy crap, he's got a cannon!
We'll only go as far as Brian hill can take us. He's an absolute beast after solid winter conditioning. Shut him (and wick) down, and we don't have anyone else to move the ball.
Running back is definitely our strongest position by a long shot. We know what hill and wick can do, but tapscott did an awesome job of getting around the edge and showing his breakaway speed. Evans did some solid work too, pretty spectacular when you realize he's our 4th option and can still produce when his number is called.
Our defensive depth is a huge concern. Of course we were missing a few guys, but our no. 2 defense looked awful at times.
Chavez Pownell Jr. is an idiot and tanner gentry should kick his ass, luke Martinez style. He must be the only guy to get called for targeting and ejected in the history of spring games. If idiots like him are making up our starting backfield we're going to see a lot of dumb penalties and missed assignments this year.
3. Its a shame there was no stream, especially with the weather not being perfect which kept people at home I imagine

I thought #22, RB Nico Evans, showed promise. QUICK. Gentry (#4) and all TE's all caught a lot of balls. Agree #17, Allen, has a strong arm. #32, Tapscott, needs to take care of the ball better, although he had some BIG runs. Cummings, #59, is a player. Thought the OL looked a lot better than last year's group. I shoulda dressed warmer.
An aside. After the game my wife and I went to The Library for an adult beverage and some Pizza Pucks (highly recommend, btw). A group of young guys took up a large table and my wife thought she recognized a couple as team managers. Her thought was confirmed when, as we left, one of the coaches stopped at the table and we overheard him thank all of them for their hard work. That was pretty cool.

Ha. I noticed that too. I feel sorry for those guys. They became writers because public speaking and broadcast journalism wasn't their cup of tea and then BAMM, you're on camera anyway.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the numbers for this game was that Josh Allen may be closer to the top job than initially thought. Coffman may indeed have a good year, but it almost feels like there is a bit of a leash now. Any thoughts? I guess ideally is Cam has a great senior campaign and Allen then takes the job for the next two seasons.

Also sounds like the o-line is doing pretty good, particularly with the run game (also helps having some excellent RBs like Wick and Hill leading the way). So, barring injury, illness, or 2 appendicitis cases in a row, the o-line should be much better.
I was impressed with the compete of this team...I saw a noticeable difference between this years spring game and last year's.
Josh Allen is the future of this team moving forward and depending on Coffman's play I wouldn't be surprised to see him as the starter before the end of the season.
You could tell that this year's team is really a unit that has bought in totally to Bohl's system - you can see a much tighter all around team and the foundation coming to life for the first time since this staff took over.
As an aside the hit by Chavez Pownell Jr. was a thing of beauty. Perfectly timed, perfectly struck, the flag and the ensuing ejection was a complete joke. If it were a regular season game the flag and the ejection would have been overturned. Pownell is an absolute predator who plays with a ferociousness this team desperately needs on defense...an identity and physicality that needs to be further enhanced. Pownell was in on most every defensive play and his style of play can be infectious to an entire defense.
Our running game is top-notch all the way around. If we get semi-consistent line play we should be much more dangerous on offense this season. Tapscott runs like he's insulted if someone dare tackle him. Hill is a beast, Wick will eventually be Wick...and Nico Evans brings a dimension of speed and unpredictability that should allow Vigen to feature him very effectively.
Maulhardt obviously sat it out, but Gentry looked pretty good. Look for Joe Parker to be a player who emerges as the season moves along.
Luis Bach at LB is another player who seems to be emerging.
We're not there yet (obviously) however I am getting the feeling that this year's team will play much more competitively than a season ago, and I won't be surprised to see them win 5-6 games and possibly snatch a victory somewhere along the line that nobody thought they'd have a prayer of getting.
Did I mention that Josh Allen is the future of this team at QB? What a find -- what a player I feel he can become.
P.S. Tanner Simpson will contribute this season too.

Overall, things sound positive. I am encouraged by what I've been reading. It's good to hear that Pownell brings some toughness and an edge. It's much needed. Allen's tape was incredible so I'm not too surprised to hear that he's a stud. He looked mobile, too.

You can tell that Bohl is happy with his top 2 quarterbacks. I got the impression that he's more comfortable with Cam as a game manager and ball control QB. He was impressed with Allen but called him a "gunslinger" and said they needed to school them out. To me, that means playmaker but risk taker.
