Speaking of schedules

Anyone know or hear if we will ever get CSU back on rivalry weekend instead of ending with a couple non-division opponents?

I don't think we want to change it. It was on rivalry weekend not too many years ago(3ish) and the turnout was awful both places. The thanksgiving weekend isn't good for football attendance here with most the kids going home for the long weekend. I have a feeling both schools are happy wit hit in October.

Good point. I forgot about that. I like the idea of it being on rivalry weekend but your point about attendance and Thanksgiving is true. Our fans (or theirs) won't forgo holiday plans for a game in Laramie or the Fort.

Yeah, despite the dismal result on the field, the last time we hosted (after switching it from rivalry weekend) we had about 25,000 Wyoming fans show up here. Of course that was DC's last season, but still.

I'm avoiding placing any big home games at the end of the season, or at least until the program is an established winner. It was Senior Night last fall with Boise State was on the verge of a major bowl berth and the crowd was still dismal.

I hope we come close to selling out for the BW this year. Got a feeling it will be a classic.

I wish we could just stay at home the first six games every year. Home attendance in November is embarassing!

The Mountain West office has already said that they will not be thinking about rivalries when they make the schedules. That's why most of the teams don't play their big rivals the last game of the season anymore. I liked it a couple of years ago when they had all of the cross-division games at the beginning of conference play then the inter-division games at the end. It gives the games more meaning when you can control your own destiny late in the season within your division.

I'm kind of with Spartan on ending the season with cross division rather than intra-division games. However, since the topic we started discussing this, I went back through several years and our attendance just tanks in November regardless of who we play.

What do you think? J-Rod brought up winning might help. I agree with that, but I also have a worry that it won't matter what we do. November attendance will just be bad.

Is there anything else we can do (other than fix winning)? Is it just weather?

Sustaining attendance through November is critical to upping our season average. I really believe we could be 25K+ but November is killing us.

Weather and other sporting events are kicking off in November.
