Bentz has made more shots and has fewer turnovers than Lieberman. I don't know what the fascination is with Lieberman. I'm excited for his future, but some morons are calling for him over Grabau.
I think people ar the excited because of his future. You've never heard Shyatt say Bentz is the second best shooter on the team. The upside of Lieberman is insane while Bentz set a career high in points yesterday at 4.... The ceiling of Bentz is in the basement while Lieberman, while young and struggling, is super high. That's my take on it and I too am one who cringes when Bentz hits the floor.
+1

And yet, only with four points, Bentz became a great floor general pretty much the entire game.
I guess we watched a different Bentz. I see the slow, unathletic short guy with very little basketball skill or apparent baskrtball IQ. I certainly am not trying to knock the kid but I don't see any upside to him vs. getting Lieberman more time. I look at Bentz as a small Matt Sellers with less production.

Lieberman needs those precious minutes against scrub teams like Southern not Bentz, who is gone next year. Lieb's shot is not falling and he needs to see those shots fall to get his confidence back. He looks scared to shoot at the moment which is a shame because he can get into great positions on the court to score.

How about instead of talking about what you think of the players in terms of productions, let's look at the actual production.

Against Southern, Bentz played 24 minutes. 4 points. 2 assists. 4 rebounds. 0 steals. 1 foul. 0 turnovers.
Lieberman? 8 minutes. 0 points. 0 assists. 1 rebound. 1 steal. 2 fouls. 1 turnover.

Bentz clearly outplayed Lieberman and that's why Shyatt played him 3x as much yesterday.

While I don't disagree, we can also take it big picture too. Just based off minutes played alone, Shyatt clearly prefers Lieberman. He has played more than double the minutes as Bentz, 152 - 77. The rest of his stats are similar in that As he has more minutes, he's averaged more points, assists, etc. AND, Lieberman is usually one of the first off the bench while Bentz is about the last. There is no doubt that Lieberman needs to get more consistent, and I think he will. I can't speak for shyatt but I think he believes that as well.

Fair enough, I guess. I'd still rather see Lieberman out there.

You don't play guys during a game to develop them. You play the guys that will help you win. Lieberman was not that guy yesterday. I could care less about getting Lieberman minutes if Bentz is the better player that day.

I think Shyatt has proven that is not his approach. He would rather get guys time to better them and the team come conference time. He has said as much. It why he schedules the way he does.

He has never said that he would rather keep players that will help the team win a given game for the sake of player development. That's just dumb.

Lieberman was not helping the team win yesterday. Bentz was. That may not be the case on Tuesday.

The best players are going to play. Not the players with more to offer the program next year.

He has said he scheduled opponents in an attempt to develop players. He's said it numerous times this season after games. The way young players learn and adjust to this level is by playing. That's not dumb.

Yesterday absolutely was an aberration and Bentz played better and was rewarded. Youre right, Tuesday is a new day and a new game.

Bentz is awful on defense. He let guys drive right by him all night long. I get that he has worked hard and been a part of the program, but putting him on the court is a waste of time. It's a bad idea and a waste of minutes Shyatt could be using to get young players who actually have talent ready for division I basketball. Lieberman and Aka Gorski are capable of helping this team win in the future. Bentz is only capable of "I hope he doesn't fuck up" when he is on the court.

Agree...he is a turnover / airball waiting to happen.

I think Shyatt (giving Bentz minutes) is his way of saying "thanks for being a walk on to the program for the last 3 years" and "thanks for working so hard in practice the last 3 years". And I am good with that...but I would much rather see Lieberman / Aka Gorski getting the PT (especially as Washington is redshirting).

i had fun at this one, except when I cheer the fans turn around and watch me, ummmm, there's a game on the floor people!!! WE truly need this game against Montana State tomorrow!!! Get it done going into break
