Southern @ Wyo

I've never seen a Cowboy team get out rebounded like that, ever. Completely embarrassing. I'm scared for conference. There's tons of good big men in the MWC. We're going to get demolished down low every night.

The refs were garbage, really. But that is not the reason we lost.

That was one of the worst performances I have seen in a while, at least Shyatt owned it in the post game interview. The only positive thing I saw was that Marshall was able to bust out of whatever doghouse he was in, unfortunately it was too late in the game to make a difference.

Why does Shyatt emphasize trying to draw the charge 100% of the time? It's obvious that is all our team is coached to do. Barnes is out there trying to take a charge on a guard on a fast break half his size, and Mcmannemen has developed into one of the worst floppers I have ever seen. Yes there is a time and place for drawing an offensive foul, but god damn JMac looked like a European soccer player taking a dive out there all night. I thought it was a very well officiated game and the officials didn't bite on all the flops from the entire Wyoming team. Frankly it was disgusting. Can we not ever try to contest a shot?

I personally don't think Dalton should play another minute this season until he puts on some weight. The SOuthern big men were feasting on him, despite their obvious fatigue issues, they looked like a fat kid in a candy store. Mountain West big men from the likes SDSU, UNM, UNLV will absolutely demolish Dalton (and most of our bigs) if he ever sees the court in conference play. We might get outrebounded by 30+ in a couple of games.

Barnes has the physical tools, but sadly it looks to me like the game is moving at 60 mph, but his mind is only going about 30 mph. I think Naughton should get a longer look as we approach conference season to see what he is capable of at this stage.

I don't think Lieberman and Washington should be on the court at the same time. They are frankly the same player right now.

The only positive I can see is Marshall getting on the court.

This is a young team. We will have games like this. I think we will win the game against nmsu. Everyone stood and watched josh play tonight. Southern double teamed josh of every pick. The roll was covered by an off player and our other guy that wasn't being gaurded just stood about 3 feet behind the 3 line and watched rather than going to the basket. Shyatt will get it cleaned up.

Which is what a number of posters warned people of well before the season started. I'm sure there will be calls for Shyatt to be fired here though if there are more games like this because of unrealistic expectations going into the season.

It's not an "unrealistic expectation" to expect him to have his team ready to play every single game. Every season Shy has a game or two where he gets flat out outcoached and tonight was one of them. From the opening tip it was ugly and apparent we had no business being on the court

I've come around: NCAA Tournament berth or bust!

Anything less and we all claim this season as an enormous FAILURE!!!!

Every team is going to do this. This why we need JJ and Marshall out there to drive when the defense rotates and closes out after Josh finds them out of the double team.

And now for the stark reality of the situation...level-headed and sane individuals are already aware of what I'm about to write.

It's a major transitional year.

80% of the core of last year's team is now gone.

The team is exceptionally thin in the frontcourt positions.

The team is exceptionally young and immature basketball wise.

We have a lot of exciting talent on this team that has not come close to reaching their potential.

We have a solid coach and staff who will develop this young talent and watch it coalesce over the next few seasons.

Anyone who expected this team and this group to reach great heights this season were simply being unrealistic.

Coach Shyatt and his staff need time to get this group up to speed, get them invaluable experience this season, learn, grow, and watch 'the process' take its course as they get better over the next 1-2 years.

If this group gets a CBI invite it will be a major accomplishment...although I'm not feeling too confident they'll even be able to get there this season.

They've got as good of a shot as 12 out of the last 15 or so UW teams of winning the MW tourney.

Adams is special

This season will be special to follow hard. Ups and downs and progress and regress. This is one season in wyo basketball history that we really don't know. We know why we are frustrated. This has a strangely talented group. We know that. It's just that nobody knows what to make of what we have.

Adams is special.

Whenever this group figures it out they have a shot to compete. Let's hope it's in Vegas. This team was never going to be s 25+ win team, they were always going to have to win it. Atleast we have the interesting development of a bunch of talent here. This isn't a lost cause season in UW history. This really is a big season that we are all lucky is happening.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about unrealistic expectations of another NCAA Tournament berth. Or saying you'd be greatly disappointed if we finish with less than 20 wins or anywhere south of 3rd in the MWC (those were your words two months ago).

Let's face it. We are 5-4 with three games left in nonconference play. 21 games left in total. Meaning a 14-7 finish would still be a disappointment for you. That is absolutely an unrealistic expectation at this point.

albeit a loss and one we should be able to recover from, we are Wyoming and coming off this NCAA hangover, we gotta remember, we make that tourney on average once every 15 years or so, that's why we have to take this team for what it is, NEW and we'll be exciting once they "get it", kinda feel sorry for Josh, but let's enjoy him while we can!!! Game at a time we'll see

I will be disappointed. And frankly it isn't unrealistic. If the team that played Cal shows up more times than not going forward, my expectations will become reality. IF last nights team shows up more than not, yes I will be incredibly disappointed in this season.
Shyatt has hit 20 every season here, it would be disappointing to not hit 20 wins with a team. Yes they're young, yes they're learning. This team may be the most talented he's had at Wyoming.

This is where I am too. Was I extremely frusterated last night...Of course but I've been saying all year its gonna be a roller coaster of a year. We will show flashes of the talent we have some games and other games will go like this. Its gonna be fun to watch this team grow and wee when it all clicks(and I beleive it will click). Just hope it all comes together at the end of the conference season and into vegas.

I also agree wit hthis. It will be dissaapointing to not reach 20 wins this year. That doesn't mean I am predicting it or will blame the coaches or lose faith in them if we don't but we have hit that mark every year Shyatt has been here so it will be dissapointing if we don't this year.

I think the best advice for this season is to not get too up after good games or too low after bad games just enjoy the ride.

This is sound advice. I have tried my best but last night really irked me

I was at the game last night, but the fan attendance was really bad. The Pokes definitely had a hangover and were flat from the Cal game and to top it off, several of our key players may have been listed as 100% physically, but they were not. Josh has a way of playing through pain, but he was probably 75% or less - he could not make sharp cuts or elevate anywhere near normal. Herndon & JJ were also nursing injuries. I too was a little miffed at Barnes last night. He wasn't going after loose balls and every time someone passed him the ball, he looked surprised. He needs to get some confidence and aggression going. Time to step up for several players. I give the officials a C- last night.

Agree on all counts. Do you think the bad attendance has anything to do with the egg we laid in the exhibition game vs. Ft. Lewis in front of what will be our largest crowd of the year?
