We need a true center...Sellers is the only "center" we have, but he isn't ready to contribute. We need a 7 footer who can bang it down low.

I disagree. I love our lineup and how everyone plays, everyone can run and stretch the floor. Both Leonard and nance can go on the block. The true center is a dying position

In theory, I agree with this. If you look at our starting line-up, there are 5 players on the court that have to be guarded to the 3-point line and they are all quality FT shooters as well (that's why we won last night, 20-22). We should be able to space the floor, alternate Leonard and Larry on the block and have a variety of cutters to try to get to the rim and the line.

On the flip side, we have taken a massive step backwards on defense this year. This is the second low-major team (NCCU the other) that had their way with us and shot a very high percentage, particularly from the arc.

Since you were able to see the game, what is your evaluation on that end? Are we getting beat off the dribble and the resulting defensive help is allowing open 3's, or are we just slow on rotations?

I agree that we seem to have taken a major step backwards on defense this year. The other thing that is of concern to me is the fact that we are shooting so many 3's. It has been a trend every game.

Last nights game half of our shots were 3's. You can't take that many 3's game after game and keep winning unless of course you end up being one of the top 5 teams in the country in 3 point field goal percentage which I don't think we will be. AND even if you are a good 3 point shooting team there will be games where we don't shoot very well. We need to find better ways to get Washington and Nance the ball on the block if these guards are having that hard of a time getting it in to them. Or maybe the guards just don't want to throw the ball inside and would rather shoot 3's which would not be a good thing.

Not sure if anyone heard the post game show where they were talking to Coach Shyatt, but he said he wanted this team to take 3 point shots 45% of the time. He didn't mean make 45% (that would be good though), but 45% of the shots they take should be from behind the 3 point line - and he expects Washington & Nance to step out and shoot some too.
What I saw at the end of last season and in last night's game was locking down a defender or Martinez really takes him out of his game - I think Southern's coach saw this too. Martinez needs to practice non-stop with a defender right in his face.

Zeller at Indiana isn't a traditional center at Indiana, neither was Hansborugh. Those dudes could dribble ad shoot and run. They can do it all. That is by no means traditional. Traditional is Shaq, Hibbert, guys that can only post up and play post D.

Okay. Thanks for letting me know that . I didn't hear the post game. If that is the case then Shyatt basically wants us to play just like Florida. I would have thought we needed another year before we try that but coach Shyatt knows way more than I so I will trust him. We do have some shooters but I think we need a couple of more.

Here's to improving every game!
