Sound Familiar?

Hawaii shouldn't be part of the MWC. They should go independent, and that is what a large portion of their fan base thinks as well. I say let them go, beg them to go, and let's move on. It was great back in the 80's to have them in the same conference, but worthless now, and worthless in the future.

I basically agree with you. I can't help but think it's simply a recruiting tool. Tell a Wyoming or csewe recruit he will get a few free trips to Hawaii. Because there is no other reason for them to be in the MWC or any other conference.

I agree they don't really add much to the conference. Independence or dropping football all together would be in their best interest. However as a fan, I love having an excuse to go to Hawaii every 4 years. My wife and I actually planned our honeymoon around going to the game in Hawaii. It was a fantastic trip.

Hawaii was a very good football school at one point and right now they do add the Honolulu market so for tv revenue they are more valuable then say New Mexico State would be. They are probably the second best team in the west division (not saying much I know)

Keep them, why not? It's not like they are a San Jose State

Get rid of both, and you'd have an even 10 in all sports!

Without 12 you have to get big 12 treatment for a championship and that was the goal of going to 12.

I'm not sure why we're talking about getting rid of Hawai'i and San Jose State? Have we seriously forgotten a decade's worth of everybody talking about how Cowboys didn't deserve to be in the Mountain West because how terrible we were? "They're celebrating a 6-6 season, what kind of program doesn't see .500 as a failure?"

Man, that's a heckuva take down of a team that took the game to OT.

Many of their internet fans want to fire the OC. Speaking of "sound familiar?"
Like, geez people. That game was a bold L in red font for UH in the preseason. You'd think outperforming expectations would be a good thing. This Wyo team has a way to go, but they're still the defending division champs. You'd think Hawaii lost to Northern Colorado the way that writer reacted.

It isn't necessarily about with W/L record...at least as far as MY particular disdain for both...

1. Hawaii - again, should be independent. Travel sucks, the subsidies are unfair, and those people need to remain on their island. It is a different "game" than 1980. Facilities (football) are deteriorating faster than you can blink. With no upgrades planned, etc. See ya Hawaii.

2. SJSU - similar to Hawaii, facilities are in the shitter, with no plan for upgrades or future growth. They are slowly becoming the worst in the nation.

So, essentially, if you are not investing, get out. They are not trying, and they are not investing. Even Wyoming, who has largely sucked for 20 years, has continually invested in facilities and the program. Neither of those 2 give a shit, and it is showing.

I certainly can't argue with both points. They are not really making a conscious effort to contribute to their own programs, let alone to the conference as a whole.

However, the problem remains: if the MWC eliminates a football member from the conference, they need to replace them with someone else. The financial benefits of having 12 members (I.E. Conference championship) are too great to drop back down to 10. And that begs the question: who do you replace with. The simple answer is that there are very few - if any- programs that would be interested in joining the MWC that would be of any more value than Hawaii or SJSU.

Fair point

I wish we could get Tulsa and Houston but it's a pipe dream as the American conference to the mwc would probably be a lateral move. What I would like to see is a mwc champion play the American champion for a major bowl I think that could be a lot of fun.

Here's the difference: Last year when we beat down csewe at their place, the place was sold out. When we play CU in BB at Boulder, the game is sold out. We have rivals that come out to see us. Air Force the same way. People yawn when Hawaii comes to town. I'd rather we add UTEP again than keep Hawaii.

Sure - last year people came out to see us. We certainly were NOT a draw for other teams when I was at UW, though (not sure about basketball, because I just can't watch it). Hell, I remember a Border War in Fort Collins where we probably had more fans there than the sheep did.
