Sorry about this post - but where is our GD will to compete?

JimmyDimes said:
It is called attrition. We had zero depth at linebacker (the only linebacker playing linebacker is Wacha). All our db's, except for Tyran Finley are freshman. We start up to three TRUE freshman on our offensive line. We have only two guys with game experience at wide receiver. Our backup DE's are barely over 200lbs.

These are facts that easily explain why were are in the position we are in today. Some don't want or try to understand, but the previous staff didn't recruit well...especially on D. And most of the guys they recruited left the team. It is tough to compete when you have 7 seniors and play mostly underclassmen.....some of which are not playing the position they are used to.

As a fan you can either accept this going to be a tough rebuild....or you bitch and don't try to understand the situation. Or, based on this history of this board.....you can just bitch.

And if anyone wants to bitch about recruiting.....start with DC. Bohl has only had two classes.....hardly enough time to build a team if you ask me.

And who the fuck cares about who think we are a laughing stock. In a couple years they won't. Cowboy up!!

Agreed 100%!!!!!

Think about this, who are the upperclassmen on our offense? Wick, Gentry, Maulhardt. Am I missing anyone? Coffman? He may be a senior but he's been only two years and gets to play one. Everyone else is underclassmen!
What was the quote, " I went to the Cowboy walk and couldn't believe how small we are!" No doubt! Most of our guys are 18-19 years old. Give them a few years and not only will they have grown in knowledge by playing young, but add to that size year to year. Our 272-280lb OL's will be pushing 300 in a few years and will have significant playing time to back it all up.
Our D was horrid under DC! Or do we not remember? And Bohl had limited success with some upperclassmen last year, but also started playing quite a few younger guys. This year we had holes in EVERY AREA but the DL, which is underperforming. Who are our upperclassmen on D? Yarbrough, Ali' Api api, Olive, Applby, Wacha? Am I missing anyone here? We want to blame Stanard for how shitty our D is, but, he is playing and teaching and coaching a core of youth. He and Bohl inherited a true "Shit Bomb" for a defensive unit when they came in. We are young and undersized. And rabid fans like you all want them to go out and play like a 260 pound Yarbrough. Or a 210 pound Wendling in the backfield. Sorry, but there is only so much push that a 200 pound Granderson has on the line filled by the opponents much bigger upperclassmen. We want our safeties and corners to lay the Boom like Wendling and Prosinski, but again, their is only so much "umph" and speed in our much smaller and not quite as speedy as the need to be 160-170 pound cbs and safeties. You give these guys time to grow in knowledge and strength and in a few years, you will see significant improvement. And Wingard is leading the way! Don't even get me started on our "patch work" LB corp. Both outside LBs are a TE and a RB. And we expect amazing results? Last year we actually HAD LBs.

So why would year two be worse than year one?

There's your answer.

When you build a foundation you first have to dig a hole... Almost sounds like the progress is going backwards, but then you build securely in that hole and build up out of it!

If you've ever had your own business, year one was unknowns. Lots of money going out and very little coming back in. But if you build your business plan and stuck to your guns, year three generally showed signs of progress, you may still be in debt, but things were looking much better. Year four generally was a little better and by year five your business probably took off. Success. Instant? Hardly. It took hard work, patience and sticking to your guns.
The same thing applies here. You want instant success, you better look elsewhere. Because we just dug the hole to our foundation.

You cannot possibly be OK with going 0-12 can you? I'm talking to you Jimmydimes and fromolcomment on every thread. I understand Wyoming is a rebuild. I'm fine with a couple 4-8 season, he'll even maybe one 2-10 seasons as long as we show improvement but more than anything a desire to compete. But we are staring down the barrel of a 0-12 season losing every game by multiple scores. That is a program killer. You cannot simply chalk that up to the previous regime. Even DC came in and won 7 games his first year without "his guys". I don't think anyone is calling for Bohl's head yet but we have to understand the seriousness of the problem we are facing and Coach Bohl does not get a free pass for this dismal season simply because he "hasn't had enough time."

"When you build a foundation you must first dig a hole." Does this mean going 0-12 is a part of the plan? Let's go as low as we can go, that will set a real solid foundation that I'm sure recruits will love to play for!!!!

Leave the silly construction analogies in the construction world.

If that's what it comes to. Do you think these guys are going out there every Saturday trying to lose?

So you're OK with going 0-12? Yes or no question.

I would follow up with another question. What coach has ever recovered from an 0-12 season to lead his team to a conference championship? Has that ever been done?

I'm sure the players go out there and don't want to lose, but there's a difference between not wanting to lose and bringing the necessary focus, discipline and intensity to win.

We did outgain the Lobos. We did however, allow two big plays, lost the turnover battle and commit a shit load of penalties that cost us the game in the end. All things that can be fixed.

This is what I'm wondering too. Has any team been the worst team in the FBS then went on to be successful under the same coach?

If that's what it comes to, then yes. But! We are only 0-4 now. There are just a few on here who already act as though we have NO hope and will be 0-12 by seasons end...I have not been one of these people.

Idk if there has ever been a coach to go completely defeated a later win a conf champ. I said I was going to do some digging on continued G5 success, so I will look for this as well. Did Marshall want to lose all the time when they had to play with an all freshman team, with three upperclassmen after the horrid crash? Proof that when you are young you truly are on the bottom looking up. And how has Marshall's success been since those long grueling years?

Success takes time to build.

I agree our D was a shitshow under DC...the difference is we could outscore a few teams. Thus it really doesn't matter how bad your defense is if you can score more points than your opponent however that is not the case now. our D still sucks and now our offense is sub par as well. that is a bad combination.

By "outscore" you mean "a few coaches were too stupid to realize DC never made adjustments, and once you figured out what he did, we were lucky to score 7 points a game", right?

We are awesome as fans. We want a coach that will stay forever (due to age and/or regional ties) and players that will come in as freshmen and stay in Laramie 5 years.

maybe we need to hire coaches on the way up that have potential to move on from wyo to bigger schools. And maybe the program needs heavy contributions from juco guys. Maybe more guys stick around that are on the field playing from the get go. Maybe it's harder for 25 guys a year that don't see playing in their near future to love Laramie and want to stay.

We want it built one way but then also want results right away. I want the next urban Meyer I don't care if he only stays for 2 years. He won with other coaches recruits w losing teams. How long of a process did he put in place before trying to win? Game 1 season 1.

You want a guy that will stay forever that will build on his system? Keep waiting, they'll start trying to win next year. Year 1 he didn't have to use the "cupboards bare" reason. He got handed "no qb and no time to recruit"

In lower level football the system can override the talent. For Wyoming to compete in d1 football the talent has to be maximized.

Yeah that is exactly what I meant! ;) If we really want an entertaining afternoon lets look at the margin of victory or defeat from DC's fist two years and Bohls first two years. That should be fun. After all the only real stat that matters is the w's verses the L's right?

Or here is a effort that might be fun lets look at the lowest national ranking of any coach in the history of the university and compare it to Bohl. I am sure there is a golden egg in there somewhere.

Wake up people...he has taken us to the lowest spot possible in FBS and he is still the savior? This man might be the second coming.....

I am wide awake Slow and I am thinking we are a shitty bunch of fans who are so damn impatient that we don't want to give a proven coach the time to prove his worth.

Two recruiting classes while cleaning up after DC is not enough time. We are the youngest team in the nation and that isn't Bohl's fault. Why not give him the opportunity to build something? Some fans take things for face value and flip the fuck out when we lose. People need to understand this is a rebuilding project.

Honestly, some of you should give the negativity a rest. It isn't going to change anything this year. But, could make a potential recruit think twice about playing for a bunch of angry fans.

No we are not impatient we are disgusted. Say what you will about DC but how many bowl games did he take Wyo to and how long was he here! Five years and two bowl games something like that? In retrospect he was as successful as most that we have had and we bailed on him when he had a couple bad seasons. Oh and by bad I mean 3 wins at the worst! Last I checked that is better than ZERO wins.
