Sucks.

Period.

Any faceless #ass can criticize any #player and #coach in real time. Those same coaches and players read them #immediately and can respond, #intheheatofthemoment.

Its not good. Fans are passionate, players are passionate. The only purpose it serves is to alienate fans from players (and vice versa) when emotions are running high.

Not saying the criticism isn't deserved or undeserved. Just pointing out how easy it is to address an individual on either side of the coin in this day versus, say, 10 years ago. We no longer have to write the editor of the local sports rag or send the HC a snail mail letter. We can just find them on the internet and leave a comment that doesn't require a name and return address to publish.

I used to love the player interaction it provided. Now, I think it's cancerous. I just know that half of the basketball team is currently on their phones liking, favoriting, retweeting and following twittersphere.

It was a cool novelty at first. Then as it evolved, it became a problem. Fans and players getting into it online. Fellow students who had classes with players getting into it... These things are NOT GOOD.

Check out some of the convos our football players are having, and not just between themselves, but with former players too. Tons of words that start with N that only certain people can say... and this is all public.

I'm not trying to be the PR police (I'm about the most drunken, least PC person you'll ever meet). I'm just pointing out the potential damage on the horizon.

LOL

I guess someone reads this. All the pages I had bookmarked have been edited. Good for them :thumb: .

I just went and read them all. I needed that laugh!! So basically if you criticize a player for stinking up the joint (which Hamkerson has for the entire second half of the season) you're not a fan. Got it. My favorite tweet was Adams telling us that stas don't tell how important Hank is. That's a relief because the stats tell me he is garbage. But at least he looks good in a uniform and can cheerlead. I guess that's what's important.

I think it's admirable for team mates to stick up for one another. I don't think it's fair to call a player garbage. Hankerson paid his own way to play this year. I'm sure no one is more disappointed in his shooting than he is. However, if you want to blame someone, blame the coach. He's the one who recruits the players and decides who plays. I thought the effort was pretty good last night. Adams had his best game this year. We are a good, not a great team. Expectations are just a little too high, imo.

I think, and have basically always thought, social media is (and has been) largely detrimental to our culture & being.

That said, FFS, grow some skin - take criticism for what it is, and ignore what needs to be ignored. Getting all bent out of shape because some obscure "fan" hurt your feelings or said you suck (or whatever it was)? LMAO.

Lastly, how do you know said "fan" is really a "fan" to begin with. It is the perfect way to sabotage a situation. Wake up people.

sometimes motivations by small things can be wonderful, we all may think it, but one can never question a players heart or determination during a season and game, at least publicly. 21-7 10-5 is very respectable and yes the signs of a truly great season were there, unfortunately things happen...but there's no how no way this fan is jumping off the proverbial bandwagon, invested far too much and regardless, we will never see this team working so hard, having fun in many many years, enjoy it while we have it, rebuilding is always a fun part albeit frustrating at times.....yes the NCAA at large bubble really popped last night and a few weeks ago, it's time to regroup and make a MWC tourney run and get it that way, if not we'll support wherever they go. This team is way too much fun to give up on NOW...

dont like twitter critics?.....FB drama?...easy solution...block or stay off of it. :thumb:

You are in the spotlight......positives and negatives.....but nobody is forcing anyone else to response or engage anyone else.

#realtalk <-----

I felt like the players should've handled it differently, but I didn't think it was that bad till the end. First of all, if it is the same conversation as the one that I saw, I think the fan just said "Hankerson should be benched." I felt it was pretty civil, not really an attack on a personal level, far worse things than that are said even on twitter. Then some of the players stuck up for Hank, which probably was unnecessary, but kind of neat at the same time to show public support of a teammate instead of throwing him under the bus, so I didn't get too bothered still. It wasn't until the players started labeling people as not "true fans"(as if there really is such a definition in the first place) that I started getting disappointed. I just think that as a player you should ever tell a fan that you don't want them on your side or come to the games unless they reeeeeaaallllllyyy deserve it.

Or threatening to fight the fan? Give me a break Trey. You looked like a horses ass by doing that.

I believe this is the tweet that started it

As you can see he didn't "tweet at" Hankerson or tag it with #gowyo or anything so Im guessing one of them searched for his name in hopes of finding something critical of a team member. Im all for standing up for your team mates but if you're searching out criticism just to reply and call a fan ignorant, that is troubling. I think all athletes should be given a crash course in social media. Stay away from it after a loss or when you're heated. Nothing positive is going to come of it.

I read through everything. I am so fucking embarrassed man.

WTF are they thinking?

Why on earth does Shyatt let them use twitter during the season?

How is saying "Hankerson needs benched" a personal attack? It wasn't sent to Hank, or an insult, or trying to bring people down. It's not a sign of a bad fan. Can people as fans not express their fucking opinions?

Really disappointed in Nance for first responding. WTF man? You are so much better than this.

I hope they get their asses ripped today. Forget the loss. The way they acted off the court is a fucking embarrassment.
And Larry Nance is now the final voice on who can be fans or not? Fuck, you kidding me? How many people on here have been going to games since before Nance was even born???

And bravo Trey Washington, you fucking tool. Threatening someone because he said Hank needs benched. Who are you??? You're a fucking red-shirt sitting the bench.

Why are Wyo players so against their own fans? Why don't they know how to deal with criticism?
Is this just the new generation of kids? If you say something that isn't sucking their dicks you are a hater and not a fan?

FUCK man!

now that i've read most of them and this, agreed this was taken a bit out of context, and the coaches need to tell them to steer clear unless it's clearly an attack to them personally, we have enough problems than to drag he said/she said into the mix. One less distraction that we clearly don't need, right now especially, trying to get heathy and back to full speed.

Hugh Greenwood had the right to react on Twitter. Our Cowboys don't have any reason to respond to someone's opinion that Hank needs to be benched (which I agree with!). I hope Trey doesn't find out somebody at the water cooler here at work said Cooke can't score beyond 3 feet from the basket. I fear for their safety now.

Beav coming out swinging.

The part that bugs me the most (as mentioned) was that the guy didn't SEEK OUT HANKERSON! He didn't tweet @ him. He voiced opinion. Period. Did LNJ stumble across it? Did someone tip him off about it? Are you REALLY WORRIED ABOUT WHAT DJM19 DOUCHEBAG IN UTAH THINKS? NO!

People say crap I disagree with every day. Who cares. Be the bigger person.

+1

I get it if the guy says @hank or whatever. If he tags someone in a post to say "hey you suck" I get defending him.
Some random guy just saying his opinion? Not tagging anyone? Man, oh man.

Like someone else said, good luck playing in NY or ANY NBA city Larry and Josh. Twitter is not going to be good to you.

Doing a little more digging, neither Nance or Adams follow this guy on Twitter, so either A) they both were following him, this tweet showed up in their timelines and they reacted, & then unfollowed the guy or more likely B) they searched twitter for "Hankerson" knowing there would be criticism

McManiman follows the kid on twitter. Not saying anything was said though. Just putting that as an option.

Yeah I guess that could be true as well. I mean all three options are pretty pathetic. Fans are going to voice their opinions whether it be positive or negative. Don't get hooked and start replying to people. But we really shouldn't be surprised, this still happens with the pros (latest being RG3 & Kaepernick)
