So what type of offense and defense does N.D. St. run?

What does N.D. St. run on their offensive side? Option, Pro, Power.....Wing T (just kidding!)? Does he use the TE position? What type of running and passing games does he run, and which has been his strength at N.D. St.?

On the defensive side: Does he run a 4-3 or a 3-4, has have his teams been against the run and pass?

Just trying to get acquainted with our new HC.

Offense will probably be a painful transition, since we have about 1 true TE, no FB, and an o-line that is not that good period. Wick and May will probably thrive it in it, Smith probably won't have to do as much, though he only has one more year, so they may just keep it the spread or some sort of transition offense for next season.

I think its straight up power run.

What he said. Unless Bohl abandons his trademark approach (completely unlikely), this is going to happen, and it WILL take time. Wyoming's current talent is pretty much polar opposite of what Bohl needs. NDSU imposes their will on people....Pokes don't have the guys to do that just yet. Bohl is a long term hire.

Don't get me wrong, I think Wyoming can go bowling (haha no pun intended) next year. But the offense is in full-on rebuilding mode for now.

Offense averaged 37.16 points per game.
Defense gave up 11.16 points per game including 3 shutouts, and giving up 10 or fewer 8 times. (10- 4 times, 7-1 time, 0-3 times)
The most they gave up was 26 points in one game.

The good news is that he was also a good D-Coordinator at Nebraska.

As everyone in here said he runs a Power run offense, and I believe a 4-3 defense, if I remember right

Wonder how the d-linemen that were redshirted will work out though. Truth be told, we do have the guys more for a 4-3 defense over a 3-4. Olive is powerful, but we don't really have anyone that could even be a backup to him if he were a NG.

I think our oline will need to be retrained to block to make a hole instead of a zone block. Wick will fit the mold of a Bohl type running back. Not sure where Brett fits in. Id have to think we will use both spread and power elements. Brett is such a great weapon and im sure his talents will be utilized. It might a year or two Until we get the right guys to run his offense. Defense should benefit immediately.

So how painful is this going to be? Is it an offense that is totally different than what Wyoming runs now that we will lose Thompson and Smith? I hope not, but from what you are saying there is a lot of difference. How many times in a game does N.D. St. throw the ball? and run? Yeah, we don't have a FB, and we only have one TE on the roster. Do they throw to the TE much? We have a ton of WR's, so I guess we won't be using the WR sets that require 4 WR's at one time very often. What will that do to our WR corp? Are their games low scoring affairs? Our defense better get a lot better in a hurry.

There are a lot of teams in the MWC that like to throw the ball and like to put up lots of points and defenses are usually the weak link in this conference. I hope that we are able to improve our defense and get some running backs and WR's with real speed. I guess it will be interesting.

That is an impressive spread between points scored and points given up. I wasn't aware that he was the DC at Nebraska as well, I thought he was just a position coach there. Well it looks like his work will be cut out for him on the defensive side of the ball. I feel that we have some decent talent there so he will have something to work with, and hopefully he will be able to mold some guys quickly into a decent defense.....especially Eddie Yarbrough who I feel with the right coaching can be a really dominating player.

This Is the point I made about smith and Thompson. Power run doesnt highlight their killset. Unless bohl brings in an oc that has experience with the spread or pro set as well as the power run I cant see them staying

Stylistically, NDSU compares best with Stanford. Very physical, normally 2-3 FB/TE on the field at a time. roughly 40/60 between the pass/run. NDSU has been going 4 wide fairly often this season as they have finally had the depth at that position to do so.

Exactly. It will take some transitioning on offense, no doubt about it.

I don't know about our numbers but I agree that we would be better in a 4 man front, move Puletasi to a full time DE. I just don't know who our other tackle would be

Just so you guys know, Thompson didn't run a spread offense in high school, he ran the wing T, right wyokoke? Or did he say he ran power when we talked with him?

Either way, Brett isn't just a spread QB, and neither is Thompson.

The QBs aren't leaving, and they will be good in whatever system they play in.

Just imagine the bootleg rollouts.
