So, what really happened here?

I've been thinking about what has transpired lately with Wyoming football during Joe's tenure. What I can't figure out is how could Joe be successful everywhere he's coached then fall flat here? Are the offensive and defensive schemes that different between the college divisions? Doesn't the motivation and coaching of players remain a constant between divisions? I understand that the talent of players and the speed of the game is very different, but don't the basic fundamentals of coaching and the playing of the game remain the same? I just find it difficult to find the disconnect between the coach we hired and the coach we have now.

I have thoughts about that. I can only see the following reasons as to why:

1. He & some of his staff are over their heads, and realized so after year 3. They can't fake it anymore.
2. He recruited here at UW how he recruited at Northern Colorado and Montana.
3. He has one foot out the door, and wants to retire & enjoy his family / life.
4. He is too loyal to the obvious and glaring WEAK links on his staff. Cockmaster was only a sample.

I keep hearing statements like this and people even suggesting that he should remain the HC if he is willing to clean house of certain assistants. My question is this...how good a HC can Glenn be if he has surrounded himself with subpar assistants, and why would we want to keep him around that statement is true?

Snowman...I am not saying at all that we would want to keep him around...regardless. I think a solid HC puts together a solid staff, and holds them to specific standards & accountability. I was just pointing out a reason why maybe he was successful in D2 versus not being successful in D1.

I don't think He does a whole lot of recruiting. He probably seals the deal on recruits, but the majority of the identifying and evaluating recruiting is probably left up to the assistants. I think that is where the problem lies. The defensive assistant have the ability to identify a FBS recruit, and/or have the ability to coach them to play at a high level. However, the offensive side of the ball is completely out of their league. They either can't identity/evaluate recruits that are capable of competing in the MWC, or they can't coach (or both).

Granted, the defense hasn't been spectacular this year, but it has shown it can be. It also isn't easy to replace a smart leader in Claffey, and a potential NFL caliber player in Stinson.

The whole offensive coaching staff should have been replaced last year with maybe the exception of Applewhite as that is about our only bright spot on offense. Unfortunately, for Joe, it's too late.

McP - Wasn't really calling you out on that one, was just questioning the thought process of those fans that have suggested that they would be ok with keeping Glenn if he cleaned house. I just don't see the logic in that line of thought

I've been following college football for a while and Joe has the knowledge and experience to be successful at an FBS school. Maybe Wyoming isn't the right fit for him? Maybe it's best for Mr. Burman to let Joe go and it might benefit both parties.

You may be right but can you give me some insight into why you have the opinion that Joe has the knowledge and experience to be successful?

One thing that you usually see with good coaching is preparation and some kind of progress or improvement. We haven't seen either. And I know we've had some guys banged up or a mix of QB's but twice this year we've faced teams that have had to start their backup QBs and twice those QBs looked more prepared to play than our number one guy.

It's one thing when you get beat because the other team just has superior talent - it's another thing when you've got talent but guys aren't prepared to play.

HUH? Knowledge & Experience, yes. Knowledge & Experience to be successful at the FBS level, nope (or he would have been so).

You can't take a GM from Taco Bell and automatically assume he/she will be successful as being the GM of The Cheesecake Factory! Bad example maybe, but the point is valid.
