So...last night.

Am I the only one thinking that the team didn't give a shit because they are scared for Luke? Distracted beyond belief right now? Didn't have their minds on the game?
Because jesus dude, I can go 7/20 from FREE throws. I can go 6/23 or what ever ti was from 3. I can make 12/50 FG's from the field. Literally. I hear people all the time say things like "I could have made that shot, or made that tackle" but literally, last night I could have.

I don't get what happened last night.
I am hoping Shyatt gave them a speech about sticking together, and winning is the only thing that is gonna help their situation. If they keep losing and handing their heads low then the team is screwed yeah, but on top of that the individuals are gonna get sad and mopey and depressed with a friend/teammate facing prison and them just being a shit show on the court.

Hopefully Leonard realizes that if he wants to go to the NBA, he can not be putting up 6 points against Fresno St.
Hopefully he comes out in full beast mode like he did against CSU last season when he dropped 32 and 14.

Time for Leonard to come out and prove he is the MWC player of the year and dominate SDSU and lead this team to a victory.

TBH I don't think any of them cared about the game and were all thinking about the situation and I think that goes with the coaching staff as well and I don't blame them at all.

Personally, I don't think the off-the-court issues had much to do with the way the Pokes played last night. In general, I think people put far too much weight on the impact non-sports related issues have on the outcome of sporting events.

The team had a horrendous shooting night. It happens sometimes. When the shots aren't dropping early, it's easy to lose confidence...which just creates a vicious cycle. There will be very few games where the Pokes shoot as poorly as they did last night. It's too bad it happened in a winnable conference road game, but I have no doubt Shyatt and the team will be ready to go again on Saturday.

I'd be much more concerned if the Pokes shot decently and still lost. Then you would have to blame the loss on turnovers, poor defense, etc. Those things would be far more concerning to me than a loss due to poor shooting.

he sounded defeated, but i know he'll turn them around, it's just one game and boy oh boy to be 14-2 I'll take that anyday, I just hope it doesn't turn into 14-4 with the next 2, then Air Force, it's a work in progress, but this team knows who it is now and what they have and it's time to pick up the pieces, rally around it and salvage a still wonderful season upcoming!!!
GO POKES, Beat the Asstecs

I hope the students are ready to rock the foundation of the AA on Saturday, hope they're doing their homework on the opposing team and are creative on Saturday, looking forward to a bounce back game from our Guys!!!

it seems like our season is over just based on the performance we saw last night.

It's hard to have high expectation

I don't really remember much about last years win/loss sequence but I read an article a few weeks ago that
said last year we were 13 and 2 at one point.............and then we pretty much fell apart once the conference part of the schedule arrived.

This sounds strangely like where we are now and makes you wonder if the tremendously soft schedule might be
taking it's toll. Self confidence is the reason for going the easy route but at some point you got to face reality and
find out if you can play with the big dogs.

If you don't play the tough teams early then you may never be able to hold your own later on.

Shyatt said when he got here he wanted a soft schedule the first couple years for confidence alone, then he wants to start beefing it up. I expect some harder teams next year. And the year after. Sure we will always keep some cupcakes on the schedule because that is what almost every d1 school does. But it will get harder.

While I give Fresno full credit for taking it to the Pokes, I don't think anyone can reasonably argue that we hadn't played anybody as good as Fresno and therefore weren't able to handle them.

The schedule might have been responsible for our record, but it wasn't responsible for the loss. The loss was a result of a team that didn't want to be there and clearly didn't give a shit.

What is true is that we haven't played anyone as good as SDSU, UNLV, UNM, or CSU...unfortunately we have 8 games left against that group.

The Pokes were 14-2 before they started conference play. Then they went 6-8 in confernce to finish at 20-10. I don't really think it's the scheduling, I think it's more the fact that we were in a world of hurt after the Schroyer debacle and we got a new coach who inherited not a so good team. I think it's amazing that 2 years removed from the debacle that was Schroyer the Cowboys could be looking at possibility of back to back 20 win seasons. That goes to show what kind of a coach Shyatt is. I think it's smart to schedule cupcake teams to start with and then gradually schedule more difficult teams as Shyatt gets more of his recruits into the system.

I think so too, however some of those teams we played were not exactly cupcakes (at the time we played them). We had 6 new faces on the team (actually 7 counting Sellers) and this schedule gave Shyatt the opportunity to get his new players some PT in actual game conditions. That is going to help down the road - if not this year, then next year. Coach Shyatt and his staff are building this team and it may not get us a championship the first couple of years, but we are going to be in good shape to be competing for a conference championship in the next couple of years. The OOC schedule is going to get tougher the next couple of years too. The fans really need to get behind this team to make it happen (and I am not preaching to the choir who are members of this board).
