So if we do hire Diaz...

If Christensen does hire Diaz, wins 2 more games to get us into a bowl, and then win the bowl (even if it is the dreaded NM Bowl again), is DC our coach for next season?
Does hiring Diaz fix our defense?

I just want a bowl game at this point, and for our QBs to stay.

I think if we end up going to a bowl, DC's job is safe for another year. I think the presence of Cain will improve our defense....and think Manny can as well.

I'm guessing we would just hire him as a contractor until the end of the season.

I don't know what HCDC's job looks like, but I know he is on a 5 year contract, which is probably worth around $1 million to buy out. With what he has done to the offense this year, I think his job is secured for another year, maybe two, just buy showing up.

Right, wrong or indifferent, I don't think he is taking things very lightly. In the past, he wouldn't really acknowlege the defense. This year he is - because he is losing games he should be winning. He has between 1 and 10 million reasons to win many, many games.

I think that if Diaz is brought on it might save DC for one more year. I would actually be open to him staying for one more even if we miss out on a bowl (provided we look better and at least beat Hawaii). I think if he brought on Diaz we should give DC next year, and that year if he does not win minimum 8 games then he should be fired.

The thing that concerns me is Diaz's perceived assumption of sound fundamentals according to the Texas fans. The same thing can be said about Bo Pelini at Nebraska. He runs a complex system and just expects young players to get it. What we need right now is an absolute return to fundamentals and not a tactician. Maybe Cain will lay the groundwork for that, maybe Diaz learned his lesson. Maybe it's a moot point and Manny will never coach at Wyoming. I see similarities to his defense performances at Texas and Tormey's at Wyoming, but Manny was very very successful at MTSU. And he is a sideline guy who is very intense and emotional which certainly distances himself from Tormey a little. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think even without a bowl, some competitive games, and a win against Hawaii DC gets next year thanks to Brett, Wick, Dom, and a O-line that returns every starter considering strong is more like a half starter. I expect 8 wins in 2014-15 against a tough schedule.

So let's say, Wyo wins two more games, wins a bowl game, then Diaz comes in, and shows significant improvement, we win 8-10 games next season?

At what point do we quit saying "I think his job is safe for another year" versus "He is our head coach for as long as he wants?"

Do we fire him the first time he doesn't win 6?
Do we just need to continue to be winning 6-9 games a year?
Or at what point, does he take another job? Maybe not a Texas or USC but a Cal, or Mississippi State, or Indiana? Some low level BCS team from a high power BCS conference?

Well for me...he has to prove that he can put together a breakout season (thought it was 2011) with one of the best offenses in school history, and turn around and at least be bowl eligible with Thompson and an improved defense. Then I think he's our guy, again.

And he's back. ;)

I would say have 2 good seasons in a row, like 8 win seasons back to back then I would say he can have a little breathing room from the hot seat.

What? That's a legitimate question. Does DC want to stay at Wyo winning 6-8 games a year? DC isn't leaving Wyoming to go coach at Bowling Green or Idaho. If he leaves for another head coaching job it will be a BCS school. Unless we win out this season, including a MWC Title, and Bowl game win (10-4) then win another 10+ next season, DC isn't leaving for a big school.

And notice, I also asked if we fire him if he doesn't win 6 games.
I am not implying we will go on a big win streak and DC will be the hottest hire for a BCS school in anyway. I am simply asking if we do go to bowl games on a regular basis, at what point does he leave Wyo?

Relax. I love ya Beav. I see things the same as you most the time I was just happy to see you talking like this again. You got pretty pessimistic after the last two games and I was just happy to see you back thinking positively.

To answer your question I think two 8-4 or better years gets him some slack.

Gotcha. I just get sick of anytime I mention Wyoming winning some people are like "You are too unrealistic!"

But what happens if we are consistently a 7-5, 6-6 team?
What mentality comes in? The "Hey we have made a lot of bowl games in recent years" mentality, or the "It's time to take it the next step AKA Ron McBride-Urban Meyer type change"

I think if we start to see many 6-6, 7-5 years the seat will get warm again. Need to see progress. NOt sure how many of those types of years we need to see before it gets warm though.
