So does English get fired?

I know we have one game left, but I am curious what folks think. Should he? On Sports Line Live last night, they sort of signaled that they thought English would get the boot (no not that Boot).

My other question is, if he does, who do we bring in? I hope that he doesn't just elevate one of the existing coaches - for my part. And another, while we are canning coaches, how about a look at the Offensive Line coach. I have seen cheap aluminum screen doors that are more protective than the bunch we have up front. I'll give the D-line coach a little time, mainly because he had a complete retooling, not only with the new scheme, but also with the loss of Unrein, Fletcher and Givens. From there, if the secondary doesn't start to show that it knows BS from applebutter, which they really haven't all year (between biting on play action and getting burned to a crisp fairly frequently), I think we have to start thinking about a wholesale substitution on the D side of the ball.

Anyone else remember when I was an asshole for suggesting he could go?

Anyways, I don't think Marty will get fired.. being that he's transitioning to a 4-3 defense with basically, a piece-mealed d-line, I think he'll keep his job. Losing Prosinski will hurt in the secondary as he's going to finish as one of UWs all-time leading tacklers, but we some guys coming in who should help along the d-line. Everyone across the line is small and they get pushed around by giant OLs. I think he gets at least one more year.. next year the pressure is really going to be on the coaching staff.

Just what is English's history? Was he originally a "specialty" defensive coach - like a linebacker coach or
a cornerback coach? My observation is that when a specialty coach gets promoted to manage the
"big picture" situation, too often he can't handle it. Just the Peter Principle taking effect, I guess.

He was a linebacker coach under Mike Breske. Before that he was defensive coordinator for Northern Colorado. He's done this job before, but at D2 UNC.

Though he probably should, I don't think he does. They had a complete revamp of the defense this year (warranted or not), and I think it will take another year to get players in the right place. We may see some shake-ups in the assistants - but I doubt that as well. The secondary has been getting burned in the last couple of games, and I haven't decided if that's coaching or if that's a lack of speed or something else. Seems like our d-backs are cheating up to protect the run and getting beat over the top. If the coaches can't fix that, maybe they should be gone.

But, I think DC keeps his staff intact for another year and tries to fix the problems rather than making knee-jerk reactions. He just doesn't strike me as that type of guy.

GO POKES!

No. I hope we have not employed a HC that feels justified throwing ANY assistants under the bus at this point in his tenure. That would be very disturbing. After 4 years, we'll see. Right now...again, hell no.

I think he will get fired. I don't know who they will bring in ( maybe the d coordinators from either Minnesota or Colorado who have years of expearince). I really doubt he will bump up and of his assistant coaches to the position. I doubt our oline coaches (I think two people actually coach the oline) will be in trouble because none of their recruits have seen the field. Next year I hope all of the current olineman are pushed for their starting jobs and lose.

The main reason I think Marty will be gone is that the defense has completely given up, and has anyone else noticed that Dave was bitching at defensive players during the game when they were coming off the field (first time I have seen him do that). And I also notices different (although still ineffective) blitz packages & a few downs were we ran a 3-4. Maybe I am reading in to it to much but maybe this is DC taking control out of frustration.
