3. The remaining Big East athletic directors will meet in Dallas on Jan. 11 to discuss their latest moves, including the update on the television negotiations. Tulsa and UMass have been discussed as possible additions if the Big East decides to expand, according to multiple sources. Rice and Southern Miss were also tossed around. Meanwhile, the Mountain West expects to move on San Diego State by the end of this week, according to a league source. The MWC has to decide if it will go to 12 or 14. The MWC has interest in SMU and Houston, but SMU has let it be known to the MWC it has no interest as the Mustangs and Cougars are set to go to the Big East. UTEP desperately wants to be in the MWC, according to a source, and is on the MWC list. BYU is the first choice for the MWC but at this juncture the Cougars want to remain independent in football, WCC in other sports.

SMU is all in. Houston, judging by their recent comments, are open to coming West. SUDS, well, yeah. UTEP is a good old WAC rival and gives UNM an in conference rival.

Adding UTEP should be a no brainer. They belong here, just like BYU does. Sure, you can argue that they don't bring a big media market, they've been mediocre in [insert sport here], etc., but they are just as worthy as all the rest of the Front Range schools.

I am fine without SMU (8th+ viewer choice in Dallas) in the MWC. Frankly, I am fine without Houston (6th+ viewer choice in Houston) being in the MWC also. Same with Tulsa (NE GD Oklahoma).

But I also believe the MWC should focus on getting the MOMO's, UTEP, and Whale's Vagina in. And 2 of 3 three make me projectile vomit when I think of them, but that scenario protects Wyoming. It gives the MWC 14 programs (football), with a championship game. 2 divisions, play 6 in your division and crossover 2 or 3 additional conference tilts with the other side.

Then pull a Craig Thompson, and wait and see what happens the next few years.

I think UTEP and Tulsa would be great additions! I don't see the appeal of SMU, they suck in everything and they have no fan support in their own city.

Cornpoke, SMU does not suck in everything.
And their own city has maybe 25,000 population.

It's a suburb of dallas. That's like saying Aurora isn't a part of the Denver area. There is plenty of fan support nearby SMU, but no one shows up

I went there. When I go to the games at SMOO I'm not no one LOL.
And I'll go to a couple games there next year but I can't promise to go to any in 2014. I don't like the Big East idea. I never liked it. And I don't want to go to games versus THOSE schools.
And I'm pretty fed up with some of the things NOT going on there. They are still not trying hard enough for me. I'm much more competitive than they are.
It's like this. They have this top equestrian program and for next fall they are adding a western team to that. That's not exciting to me.
They still haven't added back men's track and field. And with the women's T&F they are not really trying hard enough in my opinion.
I think SMU prefers the East and the South first for any new conference to join.
And when talking to fans about going to the MWC they don't like what happened to their SMU when the WAC 16 broke up.
UTEP had been enjoying their time in CUSA but who knows now.
Tulsa loved being in CUSA with Houston, Rice, UTEP and SMU .
I know some SMU people have questions about being the only private school if the school joined the MWC.
ETC.
