Smith for Heisman in 2013?

I acknowledgde that Manziel had better rushing yards in the article. Smith had good numbers as a freshman but was asked not to run as much as a sophomore. His rushing numbers may be back up next year they may not, I tell you as a fan I would much rather see a QB with hefty passing numbers and not the yards on the ground, if that happens then you know you have a more well rounded team.
Tell that to the 2006 Hawaii Warriors. Colt Brennan once lobbed up 5,500 passing yards, along with 58 TD passes. No Heisman ceremony invite. That team went 11-3.

Manziel's running stats were absurd. I believe we had a thread here on WN debating whether 1,000 rushing yards was even possible for Brett......Manziel did it, and with room to spare.

Bottom line: I don't think the 2013 Cowboys will be anywhere near good enough for Brett to get that kind of recognition. It will again be an uphill battle to become bowl eligible.

I am not saying I think he will get it I am saying he deserves to be recognized if he has the same kind of stats next season has he did in his first two. If he does what he did between his freshman and sophomore years then his stats will only be better as a junior, if that is the case he should be recognized. The Heisman is supposed to be about the best player in college football (I know it is not) and I will say Brennan deserved it in 2006.

Oh and one more piece if history holds true then the Cowboys should win 9 games in 2013. :D

The sweet revenge will come if Smith makes it to the NFL and becomes a big star (unlike Tebow).
It's still too early on Tebow. If he gets a chance he may become that big star.

It's pretty much what everyone is saying here. For a non-AQ player to win it the numbers would have to be god-like, not just really good. A quick start for Brett next season and maybe the name might get thrown around a little, but no award at season's end. Regarding Manziel, he did this against one of the toughest schedules in the country and had a winning record and not against an average schedule with a losing record. He also lead the SEC in rushing, not just QB's, but everyone. And the signature win vs Bama probably iced it. Winning the boot every year vs CSU is nice, but you really have to take out one of the big boys.

He is an ESPN popular guy that's it, doesn't matter how you slice it he did not deserve it he got it by popular demand.

I'll go out on a limb here and say Brett Smith has NO CHANCE at the Heisman while at the University of Wyoming. I agree with almost everyones comments as to why it won't go down. I understand the stats comparison but do not agree fully with Manziel accomplishing this against the best defense because its a relative comparison between the two QB's. I do believe Manziel plays against better defenses than Brett does in the MW but Manziel also plays with better players around him that help make his tasks from week to week easier overall. Speed is speed and one can adjust to speed as Brett has demonstrated against Texas, Nebraska, BSU, etc. The only true way you could compare the two and have the stats makes sense is to put them in each others elements and see what happens. My guess is Brett Smith would come out just fine and more than likely get the neccesary hype needed to effectively generate a Heisman campaign.

I just want an outright conference championship....for once!!!!!! I was in junior high the last time we won an outright title for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanna Win 9-10 games and a bowl
CDC is the most inconsistent coach in college football. I could see Wyoming winning anywhere from 4 to 9 games next year. That's just how all over the place he is.

The stats do not lie.....if UW has a very good Turnover ratio, they'll go bowling. If not, redo of 2010/2012.

Being realistic......my long shot early look at 2013....(Assuming USU/SJSU substitute straight up for BSU/SDSU)

@Nebraska - L
Idaho - W
No. Colorado - W
@Texas State - W/L
Fresno - L
Nevada - W/L
UNLV - W
New Mexico - W
@San Jose - W/L
@Utah State - L
@Air Force - W/L
@Colorado State - W/L

Best case: 9-3
Worst case: 4-8
Probable result: 6-6 or 7-5

....All assuming Smith stays healthy and the defense somewhat improves.
