“I’m very thankful for the time I had with Coach,” Smith said. “He gave me an opportunity, and I’m very appreciative of that. I wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future.”

When asked if he will return for his senior season in 2014, Smith declined comment.

I believe he will graduate this summer and transfer to a bigger school for his senior season. He could play right away.

I wonder if Mariotta graduates and goes to the NFL.

I really want Brett to stay and see who the coach is. I want Brett to be our guy, but for what he has done for UW, I will cheer for him where ever he goes, as long as it isn't CSU or BYU.

the new coach will have a HUGE impact on whether Smith stays or goes. Like Chuckie Keeton and Gary Anderson. You get the right coach to sell him on it...we are fine. What a brutal schedule to be coming in to in 2014.

I think that Brett wants to wait to make any commitments about his future. He is a smart, level headed kid. I am sure he doesn't want to make any rash statements or judgments until the new coach is identified. The concern I have is that with a new system personal packages have to change as well. For example if you bring in a traditional power type of a coach you won't need 19 wide receivers on the roster....which means many of those kids will suffer. My fear is that the search will attempt to fix the defensive woes and in the process the offense is going to suffer.......I hope we don't regress into the three yards and a cloud of dust type of a team. Boring to watch, boring to coach and dam sure boring to play! On a personal note my son had spent two years proving himself and vying for a scholarship and now he has to start over with a new group of coaches.....this is the other side of the sword indeed!

My feelings are that the chances of Brett leaving are pretty slim.

Thinking of his character and the constitution he possesses, it would actually shock me if Brett left the program...I feel that he feels he has unfinished business as a Poke, and another thing to consider about Brett is the relationship he has with Dominic Rufran.

Rufran is not going anyplace, nor do I think he wants to.

Brett is a Cowboy through and through, he has tremendous feelings and pride for Pokes Football..I'll be very surprised if he bolts for another place.

i would agree with that. I thought of that last night. I was out of town and missed teh game on tv. I watched the dvr last night.

Smith and Rufran have it together. I dont think Smith bolts.

On the other hand... 3 plays vs USU epitomizes our season:

1- The punter donking it off the back of our own players melon
2- The muffed punt by claiborn and giving USU the ball on the two
3- We recover a fumble, rumble to the USU 2 and we do a double reverse pass trick play and lose 10 yards.

??????????????

I do feel for your son and that is the other side of the coin. I agree that Brett Smith is a level headed kid. As you, I feel a lot will happen when a new coach is announced and that coach will have to do some recruiting as well. If Brett does graduate this summer as I have read and if he doesn't get a good vibe or impression from the new head coach as far as where the program is headed then he might transfer. I feel that Brett for all of his talent is not ready for the NFL and needs more seasoning, and maybe, just maybe a new coach here at UW will broaden Brett's abilities and give him some experiences that will benefit him well as he goes on in his career in football, plus Brett knows and has deep friendships with other players on the team and this will go into the equation as well. Anytime there is a coaching change, there are uncertainties of course for a while during the period of coaches and players getting to know each other goes on. Some of the questions might be answered if the new HC keeps some of the assistants. There are just so many questions right now and no answers and won't be any until the new staff comes in and settles down. It might be beneficial for some players and maybe not for others, that is the tough side of it. If Wyoming had been winning games we wouldn't be where we are now and I would have loved for that to have been the case but it wasn't, so now we move on.

i really think he'll stay and shatter all QB records next season, but I feel bad for him in a way, I sure hope we have a great year tho

You might be right, but I'm really sick of you already. I would like to change your name to "one-douche-poke". Mods, get on this. Dom isn't going anywhere. Neither is Maulhardt. Neither is Gentry. Neither is Trap. Neither is Jones. Neither is Wick. Neither Is Thompson. Neither is Olive. On and On. Some will leave. It had to be done. Such is life. Brett is taking all things in as I would if I were in his situation. He has reactivated his twitter account and is engaging UW fans, it's not like he's gone AWOL. Obviously you want to see who the new coach is and speak with him. I feel for Tanner jarhead, and I hope Burman emphasizes continuing to develop our offense considering our weapons. I doubt all 19 receivers return, that should help him and we know hard he's going to continue to work and control what he can control.

Uncertainty always makes people nervous and the players are no different. Most will stay some will transfer. Tanner will be fine he is a hard worker. Providing they will give him a shot I am sure his work ethic will shine through. Nobody will outwork him! ;-)

Why is everyone convinced he will transfer? If Brett Smith transfers because DC was canned, that says one thing to me: He cares more about piling up stats than he does winning football games. I keep hearing how Brett is this competitor? Should he not care about wins and losses then? Does he enjoy getting his ass kicked every Saturday? Does he enjoy having a coach that fields a defense worse than Cheyenne East's? If Brett is truly mad about DC getting fired and transfers because of it, then I say good fucking riddance.

I don't know Brett personally by any means but from what I have noticed about him is that not only is he a competitor but he isn't someone who just quits something and is good for his word and wants to finish what he starts. If he wants to leave I won't blame him and I will wish him well but I honestly would be a little surprised if he did based on the way he represents himself.
That is one thing I can give Brett tons of credit for is he is a really tough kid and very competitive and he is in no way a quitter and probably works as hard or harder than anyone at trying to get better and I don't really see him leaving.

You are getting way too excited about this thing. Your question/statement about "Why is everyone convinced he will transfer?"....Only a person or two has mentioned this so it is FAR from everyone that is convinced, on the contrary, I think that he would stay, but right now being the level headed kid that he is, he is saying really nothing. DO NOT read anything into it!
