Having a team named after heritage is the opposite of honor. It's wrong. It's ownership. It's like a slavery because that people own their name and represent themselves and not a team. So tribe X has the right to their name and how they represent themselves and not a team. I learned a lot about that from Alyssa over the years because we share tribal heritage.

also....in my opinion...the native american history is a very rich and VERY important part of north american culture

i'm afraid that removing the imagery of that culture will also make steps toward decreasing awareness of this land's tribal past


rather than removing the imagery i would prefer to see the schools take steps towards promoting awareness, tolerance, and educating about the history of the tribes they "represent"

That's one of the problems.
It's not opinion.
It's fact.
Try that shit with black people (they have a lot of power).
Try to change the dumb smiling Indian that MLB has with Cleveland to a black man and see what happens.......it would be a lot like the Sambo. It's very offensive imagery.
It's OK for schools to teach the right way but it's more important for the parents to do so.
I've stood in classrooms to teach about my Indian heritages and many children said that Indians aren't real people just cartoon characters.
Others said that we were all dead, killed off.
Others just matter of factly told me that I wasn't Indian because we weren't real.
But then I had students who learned from home more truthfulness about our different nations.

Some people just can't get it and that's not OK.
It's true that it is not an honour.
A national name, or race or whatever belongs to that people and not a sports team.
It damages our children (and all of us) and that really sets me off.
I never let anyone call me a mascot (pet, charm, skin walked person etc.).
 
step one of the sak2.0 was the death of the WAC...looks like that happened today

next step will be the death of the ACC or more expansion of the Big East out west (more mwc teams leaving for BE)

not csu...i think that u of colorado would be enough colorado schools and i think that air force, wyoming, and csu have historically been loyal to each other....
