I just did not think you could find someone as inept as Sawvel and Bohl Jr. coaching a MW team.
My guess is no. Many of these math modeling decisions are used for clock management (when to call timeouts, when to go for it/punt, etc…). And Sawvel has been consistently absolutely horrible in that department routinely making decisions that defy math.
My nerdiness is definitely showing through. I love statistics and probabilities (aced every exam in that class at Mines) and believe we underutilize those tools. In an AI world where the numbers can be run extremely fast, I suspect it becomes a bigger factor in all sports and many other decisions in the workplace and life.

NIU’s coaches might give Sawvel a run for his money. Since Rob Harley joined the program as DC and then ‘interim head coach,’ NIU is 3-14 with a loss to an FCS school.
Before the current staff, NIU was a MAC powerhouse going 186-128, winning 5 MAC championships and appearing in 9 championship games in the preceding 25 years.
Talk about taking a successful program and burying it.
To be clear: I don't think Sawvel is going to be our coach next year. I think he's in over his head. I'm rooting for the guy, but I don't think he's the answer.
I would be very surprised if he isn’t our coach to start the year next year. I just don’t see a scenario that could play out where he isn’t (especially now with 3 wins).
