Great article, couldn't have said it better myself. We also need you young'ns to remember this phrase and live by it:
"My two favorite teams are Wyoming and whoever else beats BYU."
Also, if HCDC didn't like the first down mother f***er chant, then he's really going to be pissed about the "F*** you BYU" chant.

i also hate byu more then anything i litteraly would be happy if max hall broke his neck in this game. And just like this article i dont care about being classy, I think the main reason the crowd isnt rowdy anymore is because u get arrested if u say or do anything. We are losing a lot of what was fun about UW because of the administration trying to make us look "classy"

I am the biggest die hard Wyo fan there is. I now live in Utah. I drove to Laramie to the Texas game. I was right in the middle of the Wyo section at the Utah game. I will defend the Pokes over any team, any day. I have also tried to dispel a lot of stereotypes about Wyo and their crowd.
I don't have a problem at all with the crowd chants in anyway. However, "some” fans take it too far. I also happen to be a member of the “same religion” as BYU is affiliated with. I don’t care about the f-you BYU chants. But as I mentioned, some fans in our own crowd stereotype that ALL members of that faith are the same. Therefore, the same stereotypes we hate as Wyo fans we are returning to the religion associated with BYU.
I am only 27 years old, but I AM old enough to remember driving 8 hours to games in Laramie while growing up to watch BYU play. I still have my ticket stub on my wall from 1999 when Wyo beat BYU 31-17. For those of us on the western side of the state, BYU is a bigger rivalry than CSU because of the religious ties to the game.
I guess my point is, I would love nothing more than a win this Saturday. I hope you all razz Max Hall and the other goober Cougar so bad they fall apart. I just know how bad it pisses me off when I go to Provo and students are dressed up as hillbillies with inflatable sheep. Stereotypes go both ways, and it sucks. I don't think you need to be "classy" per say, but I think you can do your job as a fan and leave it at that.
Recruits and families that attend games love to see passion...they don't like seeing un-education.
Good luck to the ‘Boys on Saturday. A win this Saturday would assure me mocking privileges to neighbors on Sunday.

Calpoke is right we had a bitter rivalry with BYU in the late 80s and early 90s in football and a bitter rivalry in basketball when Brandenburg was coach, then we got Lee Mooned in both sports so the rivalry slipped away.
A former byu Basketball coach named Frank Arnold is the one who said "Wyoming fans are Despicable!" Wyoming responded with thousands of Yellow T shirts and Brown T shirts saying "Another Despicable Wyoming fan". Some of my favorite memories of the 1988 WAC Basketball tournament in Provo was seeing a lot of gray haired old ladies wearing Yellow T shirts and Brown T shirts saying "another Despicable Wyoming fan". :thumb:

Go ask ANY BYU fan if they consider Wyoming a rivalry, they will say no, Utah is our only real rivalry. Thats what happens when you dominate for so long. And you can't really compare professional baseball to college football, two very different dynamics with playing in the playoffs every year, plus playing each other 20 times a year.
Most BYU fans just know us as that funny team in the brown and yellow that they usually curb stomp once every year. Its unfortunate but true.
Simple fact is a rivalry has to work both ways for it to be considered a rivalry. And BYU doesn't reciprocate the hate that Wyo fans have for them. They only hate Utah. Now if we go beat them a couple of times and ruin their seasons more often, the rivalry will redevelop for sure.
This game is less of a rivalry now because BYU complains to the conference and the our admin at UW about how it hurts their feelings when we say Fuck u byu. I like alot of things that the tom b's have done for uw but supporting fans and in particular the student section is pathetic. I was kicked out of the last byu game(2007) for dancing to cotton eye joe. I also witnessed an entire section ejected at a basketball game for chanting the same thing. I wouldn't be supprised if they stopped chanting the beer song at byu games because mormons don't like drinking. The worst part is that the police officers and security guards ruin the game day expearince by being total dick s

the fan base is becoming more educated thanks to Tom and DC. I am tired of being perceived as uneducated rednecks and white trash. Some of you may like it...most do not.
