Brian Hill has eclipsed the 1000 yard mark for the season after last night, with 1,061 yards on the season. :thumb:

Not sure what his measurables are or will be......seems to show legit talent but seriously wondering about the beating he is taking on all of those "run up the middle with 8-9 guys in the box" runs. If draftable (not borderline), I say he is gone after next year. :twocents:

I think Hill is fantastic and I am thrilled he is a Cowboy...That said, the NFL talk is too premature. For him and for us. Take Alvester and Brett Smith. I realize they made decisions based on their current situation, but looking back, huge mistake to leave school.
Although I think Hill could play on Sundays, one the biggest mistake these guys could make is not finishing school. Many of these kids grew up in rough circumstances. Gaining education may not have even been a possibility. Education could be as much life changing as anything. Sure you can make your millions in the pro ranks, but they need to tap the brakes and be smart about it. Unless you are a lock first day guy, I would be cautious.
“There are over 380,000 student athletes, and most of us go pro in something other than sports." Cliché, but still true.

College football fans tend to underestimate what it takes for a RB to get drafted high. Todd Gurley went early this past year, but he's considered to be a generational talent...made obvious by his recent play. Melvin Gordon also went in the 1st and is already receiving the "bust" label.
Hill will play in the NFL, but he would be wise to stick it out at Wyoming. RB is always a very deep position filled with "good" RBs. NFL teams won't spend high picks on a RB unless they're sure this guy is special, and even then they might be wrong (see Gordon and plenty of other 1st round flame outs)

Obviously, he would need to see where he rates. As much as I like Smith, he wasn't invited to the combine. There had to be some signs before that.
I think Hill should measure up pretty well and is already somewhere in the top 20-30 RBs. Usually somewhere around 20-25 RBs are drafted and about 10-15 go in 4th round or earlier. Most 4th rounders (or better) will at least stick on the roster for a year. The base rookie salary will be somewhere around $465K/year.
I think he will project to be a top 12 or so RB at the end of next year assuming he has another solid year. If he even sticks 2 years on a roster, he'll make $1mill+. Take the money young man. Don't spend it and pay to finish your degree if the NFL doesn't work out.

Another thing to think about for RB's is mileage(or amount of hits taken). It seems that a running back has only so much punishment they can take in football before their play deteriorates. There are many RB's who hit a magincal age in the NFL and just dissapear. So if you can make it in the NFL it might make sense to not have an extra year in college racking up hits for free when you could be making money. Ive even heard it suggested that maybe Leonard Frenette(sp?) should sit out next year as he has already proven he is ready for the NFL(ridiculous but it has been said).
Im not trying to convince Hill to leave or anything just saying with rb's there are other factors to consider. I hope HIll stays through his senior year and rewrites all our history books.

I'm sorry, but Brian Hill should not be included in the same category as Smith and Alexander.
Alexander didn't leave early because he was given a high grade by scouts. He left because his family needed the money. Found an old tweet from Gags that Alexander said he was told: "With my athleticism and talent I have I have the potential to work myself up to being drafted." Smith was confident in showcasing his ability at the combine. However, that opportunity never came. He never consulted DC, who said he would've told Smith to stay in school. Maybe it was bad luck on his part, but I also don't the spread didn't do him any favors in showcasing his arm talent, or maybe did a good job of hiding his lack of arm talent.
On the other hand, Brian Hill has put up MAJOR numbers in a system that easily translates to the next level. There's no question about if he could run at the next level. Honestly, the biggest question about him will be his ability to pass protect. But that's not an issue limited to Hill at the RB position, a lot of RBs struggle there.
That being said, I hope he stays through his senior season. One of the biggest reasons being, the offseason predraft circuit is a great venue to showcase his running ability. Underclassmen are ineligible for the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl, meaning his draft stock would be a lot on his pro day and the Combine (if invited).

Just for the record, I also hope he stays for WYO's sake. However, if I were him and I graded well, no way in heck would I pass up that kind of money. In 2-3 years, he could earn more than many people (with a college degree) can earn in 15-20 years. A year on a practice squad will do more for him than another year at WYO.
