Shyatt?

Shyatt may do ok...but he sure as hell doesn't excite me. I won't be buying season tickets as a result of him being hired.

What is wrong with going outside of the UW comfort zone? Can we only handle retreads? Where is the new blood?

Maybe the first choices said "no," if so, I guess Larry is a good fall back. But the magic of his hiring the first go around is lost on me this time. I wanted someone new...something new I guess.

Finally, I know he "left for his dream job" and "had to leave" - but I still remember when he left and am still a little irked about it. He might be coming back to pay his debt and bring us to the place he should have in the late 1990's. He better get there quick.

If this retread doesn't work out and we don't get a bowl in football, I will say we need new blood throughout the athletic department. Personally, I like Burman...but it is past time that the money making sports (and, let's face it, fan rallying sports) produce. D-I athletics are too competitive to sit in neutral.

At first I was skeptical, but the more i think about it, the more I think this would be a great hire. Shyatt is the number one assistant coach in the country; he has great coaching ability; he has head coaching experience; a proven recruiter; he is familiar wtih Laramie and Wyoming; his age is an advantage since it likely gives us some stability; he has great interaction with students/fans. Now, I dont think he is going to turn this wreck around in one year, Lawpoke. But if the guy is willing to leave Gainsville and come back to Laramie, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and a few years to get us back to where we want to be.

Thank god! I think he can turn it around right away. Look at what he did here in one year. Plus, he set the table for McClain with the best recruiting class we've had in many years. We can finally say goodbye to the pigtail game and hopefully, have good reason to be in Vegas in early March.

why cant we get someone like Brad Stevens, Shaka Smart, Memphis' coach... a young coach someone who people are saying lets hire this guy from wyoming

Pretty telling of the type of guy he appears to be. The more I hear and see about Shyatt, the more I kind of hope he gets the job again and builds a quality program for years to come...too bad that Clemson didn't wait for maybe 3-4 more years before going after Shyatt. It would've been interesting to see what would've been different in Cowboy basketball had Shyatt stayed around at least until the end of his initial contract. It's only speculation but they could've been something pretty special.

If I remember correctly, when Shyatt was hired initially, Dick Vitale said it was a great hire for Wyoming and i think he was pretty excited about it....come to think of it though Vitale gets pretty excited about anything though. ;)

The 3-4 years after Shyatt was kind of special. Mcclain won Wyoming's only MWC championships the 3-4 years after Shyatt left. I think hiring Shyatt is a good decision, but it should also answer questions about how good of a coach Mac was (I think Mac was a decent coach but Shyatt could/should be better with his expearince at Florida). Alot of people say all of McClain's success was because of Shyatt (i'm not buying that) but I believe Shyatt created a decent foundation for that success. It would be awesome if we can get Shyatt and get Gosar as the lead assistant.

Shyatt would make almost the same amt here as he'd in Florida w/camps etc. Why'd he want to come here other than that, imo, he'd like to resurrect our program again. We should thank him and welcome him...

Welcome back Shyatt! I figure, based on his age, and the fact he takes the job again, he will be the Steve Fisher type of coach, if we give him the time. He did one hell of a job in one year last time, I think he will be fine. I would have liked someone else to get us all jazzed up, but there isn't as much doubt with Shyatt as there would have been with another guy.

Did we lose to Gonzaga in the NIT that year? If I remember correctly we lost to them that year at home (they had a couple guys who could launch the three) and the following year or year after is when Gonzaga had their breakout run in the tournament which led them to where they are now.
