Shyatt Recent Radio Interview: Recruiting

Here's a link.

These three guys are transferring from Big 10 schools that fit the wing/pf slot that we're recruiting:

Austin Etherington Indiana (redshirt sophomore/junior next year that is a grad transfer)
Jeremy Hollowell Indiana
Kale Abrahamson Northwestern

Etherington makes the most sense cause he play right away, but Hollowell would be worth having to have him sit out a year. There's also a big man from Nebraska transferring Sergej Vucetic.

I'm pretty sure the Rock School in Gainesville is a prep school. If that's the case, maybe the prep player is Pape Diatta. I sure hope it is. We need another african pipeline. Senegal is just as nice as Nigeria.

My guess is Nathan Hawkins from Nebraska.

Shyatt also mentioned a prep school kid that has a foreign background. I had thought our interest in Pape Diatta was pretty old, but he would fit the bill.

Etherington was trying to set up a visit with the Lobos. Maybe he changed his MWC attention to Wyoming.

I can hear the chants now, "Who's your Pape, Who's your Pape, Who's your Pape?"

From his recruiting tape, he looks like a guy that could help right away. In addition, the Rock School is in Gainesville, the same place as the University of Florida. This makes a lot of sense.

Come to Papa Shy, Pape.

Pape's NBA draft scouting report....

His offer list is here. Wyoming would be the best basketball school to offer him on this list.

Interesting to note that Shyatt said there are no additional anticipated departures.

Next season rides on Larry Nance's ACL. If he comes back the same player, or close to it, Pokes have a pretty solid starting lineup with Grabau, Adams, Hankerson, Cooke, and Nance. A little light on bulk in the interior and limited on size/length on the perimeter but a lot of experience and a lot of players that play with efficiency.

The biggest hurdle will again be depth.

I think the basketball program is at a critical point right now. The initial Shyatt recruiting classes are starting to roll over. Again, this is a good time to remember that Shyatt had to replace ten guys within his first year on the job. That's a lot.

He knows he needs to develop depth after last years collapse and this years stretch trouble. With the loss of Haldorson and Vernon, he has a chance to do that right away.

The two scholarships we have now are the key. If we can get two rotation players, it takes a lot of pressure off next year when we have to replace four scholarships.

Could be Darius Stokes from Iowa. He fits what we are looking for, 6'7" SF that is eligible immediately.

Can anyone explain to me how we only have 2 scholarships available? Haldorson and Vernon split, and Hankerson is not on scholarship anymore. It seems like we should have 3. Did we over-sign?

We over signed by one in the early recruiting period

Beetdigger is reporting that Alex Gorski of Sweden(prep school) is visiting Wyoming. So it looks like it's not Pape. Here's some Gorski highlights.

The Pokes will have some competition for him. As of now, he also plans to visit Saint Joe's, George Mason, Loyola Marymount, and Samford in addition to UW.

Can't say much about this kid one way or the other. I suppose it's a good sign that we aren't the only school interested.
