Shyatt in the lead?

Eric Schmoldt just threw this up on twitter:

Multiple sources are indicating that Florida assistant Larry Shyatt is the clear front-runner for the opening at Wyoming. #gopokes

This makes me squirm a little bit, I really would like some new blood in the program. However, he's got 2 national title rings on his hand and wouldn't be leaving the program anytime soon. Maybe he can bring some of that southeastern recruiting up to Wyo- maybe a dream, but who knows?

Shyatt would tend to fit the situation; why this drug out some, (burman's comment 2 weeks ago about the final four - he assumed UF would go deep in the tourny), the meeting in Atlanta today - convienient meeting place.

I know some would be disappointed, but consider this. Shyatt can recruit. Would also likely be able to put together a good staff.

If this is true I am a little dissapointed but overall happy. I would have preferred Dunlap then taylor over shyatt but what do I know. I haven't talked to any of them and I have very little knowledge of the situation or the individual coaches. So if this is the case I believe we might have him tonight or tomorrow and I will be all in and excited for the future of Cowboy basketball.

I would love to see Gosar as the head assistant and bailey as an assistant as well.....little fact about Shyatt from his UF bio: "Each of the past two year Shyatt has been honored by the Basketball Times as the top-rated assistant coach in the nation."

More from Schmoldt:

While everyone I talk to believes that Shyatt is the clear front-runner, there are multiple coaches meeting with UW team in Atlanta

By team he means the search committee.

That is very interesting if its true that UW is interviewing multiple coaches today. It would explain some of why our guys went to Atlanta and are spending the entire day there. It would tell me that there is good interest in our position. Also likely that we will hear an announcement this evening or tomorrow morning. I'm ready to get a coach, and get moving forward, whoever the coach is.

More Schmoldt:

Multiple people have told me that CSI coach Steve Gosar was also in Atlanta today. #gopokes

Maybe their fixing up a blind date between Shyatt and Gosar. Meaning they're bringing the two together with UW telling Shyatt, "You're free to hire whomever you want as assistants, but we'd really like for you to hire Steve if he's interested."

The only other time I've heard of something like this was when Jerry Jones hired Jason Garrett as offensive coordinator before hiring Wade Phillips as head coach. But then again, the Dallas Cowboys are a different kind of animal. But, some might make the case the way this whole UW coaching search was handled was "bizarre."

I dont really think there is anything bizaare about how the search has been conducted. Its remarkable that they have able to keep everything as secret as they have, but I dont see anything wierd otherwise.
