Shyatt gets second shot [ESPN]

One thing you can count on, any article by espn about Wyoming will not be sugar-coated. I think everyone involved with this deal knows where we stand at this time. Shyatt & his staff will have two big recruiting classes in his first two years at Wyoming. I'm betting with their ability to recruit quality players, within 3 years we will competing with the top teams in the MWC.

WOW if Schroyer really said he wanted out, he basically quit on his team before the year was over.

That really says something about him. what an awful hire

No doubt, billings. I've worked plenty of gigs in my line of work where I really, really didn't want to finish up the project. I never left one of them though....the reputation you earn follows you around.

That explains why Jackson and Mbaye feel it's alright to quit...."Hell, if coach can quit on us, then I can too!"

Andy Katz should change his last name to "On ESPN's nutz". The timing of that article, right in the middle of recruiting season. The tone of it was negative. His employer wants to throw salt on Shyatt's game.

Recruits are leaving Laramie happy. There's a lot to like in Laramie with brand new 50 million dollar facilities all over campus.

ESPN has taken notice and decided to run an article with more back handed comments then compliments.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that and got pissed! How come they never mention the gorgeous summers, when it's not uber hot, and you can comfortably do ANYTHING outdoors you could ever want to do?

Because those summers only last three weeks?

Actually, the only thing that bothers me in that article is Burman's statement that basically it's positive BYU and Utah are leaving - it "levels the playing field." That's loser talk.

Ya know, I initially took this as a negative. However.....keep in mind that this story is on the FRONT PAGE(PICTURE INCLUDED/MAIN STORY) on ESPN's College Basketball page. I think most recruits may not even read it, but see that Wyoming's coach is gettting some major pub right now which might give Wyoming a little steam in the recruiting side of things. Granted I still think Burman sounds like "poor little us" whenever he speaks.

PS- In that picture he is also sitting next to Billy Donovan during a game....doesn't hurt right?

meh... we've gotten this treatment from ESPN for a looooong time. I don't believe it will harm us any more than anything else.

My problem with this article is Burman's quote. We all figured that was what had happened with Schroyer (him asking to be let go - basically quitting), but we never heard anything official about it. Either Burman wasn't telling the local press, or the local press decided it wasn't worth printing/talking about. That pisses me off because that's the most honest and direct thing we've heard about the situation to this point. How does Katz get that quote, but the local guys can't or if they did won't print it?

GO POKES!

Agreed. Usually I have no use for Andy Katz (he can take a flying leap for all I care), but I don't see anything that he wrote as being particularly untrue. He described Laramie as blustery, frigid, snowy, and subject to road closures....umm, that could describe April in Laramie much less January. Ha!

Burman OTOH, continues to do a very poor job IMO.

Yep. Those statements really piss me off and he needs to stop mentioning that. It just says "We could never really compete with them and would never try"

Burman

Extreme Understatement.

It is just a matter of time, he is in WAY over his head. And we all thought, "hey we have a Wyoming guy"...WHOOPS!

Anyone ever looked at his track record since he has been at UW?
