Did our defense force Colorado State to miss half of their free throws?? oh wait they did bank one in, I forgot.
Did our defense force Colorado State to go 3-25 from 3-point range? No. They didn't shoot 25 contested 3 point shots. Many of them were wide open and flat out missed.
Again.... if they only made 6 of 25 threes and 12 of 17 Free Throws. WE LOSE!!!!!!!!!!!

I never felt comfortable until about 3:45 left when we were up 57-42... And I'm thinking great...The final should be maybe 63-48..I can live with that. Nope... We get sloppy and it ends at a respectable 59-48. So now instead of a demoralizing defeat they go home thinking geeeeez... if only we make 6 of 25 threes and 12 of 17 free throws we win!!!

CSU looked horrific. But yet the final is a respectable 59-48?? Hankerson has missed his last 25 shots.... That's hard to do!! Adams went 1-8 in another bad performance. Thank God for Nance's huge 3 before halftime. CSU was just begging us to bury them but sadly we squandered opportunity after opportunity and the lead hovered around 11. The game should have been over early and the final should've read more like 72-45. Thank goodness for some bench points or we may have unthinkably lost this game. SJSU would've beaten CSU last night(with our defense). I do give credit to our defense but our offense needs to learn how to put the nail in the coffin or it WILL come back to haunt us.
POKE FAN said:The sheep looked good draining threes in pre-game warmups. Confident and relaxed. That body language certainly changed at the opening tip. They looked like they had stage fright offensively all game. Credit that to some good interior defense by the Pokes and the atmosphere, in general, at the AA. The support and energy from the student section was awesome. The Freezer Section would have been proud. Don't know how many were scared away by the roads, but we should've had 10K there last night.

If the damn final score read 72-45 instead of 59-48 then most likely we are in the big dance. It's not just winning... its the margin of victory.
p.s. our defense did not force colorado state to shoot 9 of 17 free throws. but feel free to keep arguing that it did.
CSU was buried. We were up 16 and that was a plenty with the way we were running our half court sets. And most of those 3 pointers were with our defender closing out on them. They were not wide open as you state. I give credit for the defense to close out and not leave an uncontested 3 point shot. The uncontested 3's were from 25 feet which I would leave uncontested all night long.okcwyocowboy said:Most of you cheerleaders are giving the defense too much credit.

The committee doesn't look at scores. Wins and losses. No style points with the selection committee.okcwyocowboy said:Beaverpoke wrote:

This is where your brain is failing you. It's not running up the score. If we traded our offense for almost any other offense in the nation last night the final score would have been around 72-45. Yep, just in the natural flow of the game.... 72-45... no running up the score needed. Instead we get up by 10 and start getting cute, missing layups, turning the ball over, trying to make SCtop10 by passing the ball off the backboard for a dunk that fails, etc... We were up 57-42 with 3 1/2 minutes left.... Yet instead of an eye popping 65-48 FINAL SCORE. Colorado State nails a 3 at the buzzer and leaves with a respectable 59-48 Loss.
So the committee looks at the final score... 59-48... Then they look and see that CSU went 9 of 17 from the free throw line and only 3 of 25 from three and only lost by 11.... on the road, against their rival, against a former top 25 team and write it off. CSU gets an at large bid, we go to the NIT or CBI and our lack of a killer instinct comes back to haunt us.![]()
Bad, non tournament team, one of the worst teams in D1, a D2 team, and another bad, non tournament team, and one more D2? Or just another among the worst in D1? Vs a projected 12 seed. Very relavent comparison.okcwyocowboy said:WilyWapiti said:We simply aren't the type of team that is going to beat ANYBODY by 20.

WHOA...I don't necessarily agree that a big win suddenly puts us in the dance, but if you actually think the committee doesn't look at scores then you are crazy. I guarantee they look at scores, how much they factor them in, I don't know, but they do at least a little, I'm sure.
