Seidel Stepping Down in Summer of 2026

Best news of the day!! Although it would be better to pay him half his salary to leave now and have an interim person in the role during the hiring process. I’m not sure of the point to keep him with a lame duck status for the year.

PS - pretty clear he wasn’t going to be offered a contract extension. Perhaps the ‘school of computing’ he created for his partner will be folded or merged with computer science in engineering.

Does her job open now as well?

I think she already announced she was ‘stepping down’ as Dean and moving to faculty. The prudent move to save a bunch of wasted money is to merge the program into computer science program and reduce wasteful administrative spending. I imagine she leaves the university with him.

Get a new board of trustees. We need people that strive for excellence
I get the sentiment....but striving is not enough....plenty of people out there "striving" for excellence. Any nitwit can "try"....it should be "don't deliver?...don't let the door hit you on the way out".

There are not enough qualified well connected people residing in the state to fill a board of a major university
I disagree in part. There are enough with the qualifications but most lack any connection with the university. There are literally dozens of current or former heads of major corporations, high ranking retired military officers, big time lawyers/doctors/tech wizards/etc. living in Wyoming at least part time but most do not have any connection to UW. Where UW falls down is not having BOT members who no longer live in the state but who have major connections with and interest in UW as part of the BOT.

Here's my thought - instead of doing a search - go find your guy/gal and hire them. I don't know who that might be, but I would strongly suggest that another prolonged search will only lead to another crappy hire.

Lack of a search can result in a Sawvel or Edwards. What has never been clear is why Laurie Nichols was let go. She was clearly better than what we ended up with.

There was a single instance where she had some harsh words for a UW Foundation employee. Dave True, the Chairman of the Board, took this complaint to the UW HR department. The HR department hired a Colorado law firm to do an informal inquiry into the matter. Less than a month later, Dave True flew down to Arizona, where Nichols was on vacation at the time, and informed her that her contract would not be renewed as was previously planned.

This single instance. And other things.

She was definitely abrasive and a bit of an asshole. Probably even a little mentally unstable. But she was pretty good at her job. Just my opinion.
I share this belief. I don’t believe she was unethical and believe she genuinely cared about achieving what was best for students; I don’t believe we can say these things about the current President and it should have been evident from Day 1 when he came in and demanded the University install an EV charging station at Old Main for his personal use only.
