must be some kind of moron.....i would imagine that the 1942-43 Hoyas were higher than #5

I'm sure he was referring to in the AA. I remember Utah coming in as a fairly highly ranked team in 1998 (the same year they went to the national championship game). However, they had just lost their first game of the season a week earlier at The Pit, so I'm not sure they were top 5 at the time of the game.

The more important question is...what the hell were we thinking cutting the net down for a non-championship game? That just seems really odd.

I was also thinking that the 1998 Utah squad that lost in Laramie was #4. That is the year they played Kentucky in the NCAA championship.

What were BYU and SDSU when they came to Laramie in Jimmer Fredette's senior year? They were both Top 10 for most of the year.

they are sooooo "ooooverrrrratttted"

That chant is such an insult our our team. It is premised on the idea that our team cannot beat a really good team.

I, for one, do not believe that SDSU is overrated. The best team in the country has lost at least one game every year since 1972. When SDSU loses in Laramie it will not prove that they are not a good team, it will simply be more evidence that we are on par with SDSU (in much the same way that we were on par with Ohio State).

When we win, we should be chanting "underrated."
:agree: +1000. Ive always hated that chant. Way to undercut your teams victory by saying "since we beat you, you must not be that good."

SDSU went to Lawrence and beat KU. They've also beat Creighton and survived every other great MW test to date. Win tomorrow would be absolutely huge!

Yeah I would disagree that SDSU is overrated. Their SOS drops their RPI by quite a bit but they've passed every test thrown at them except for #2 Arizona. KU in Lawrence was huge.

Agreed.
Seatle is right on his post as well

I sure hope our students come out in droves and are creative and on Xavier Thames from start to finish, also, give the "fossil" Steve Fisher (coach) he can handle, do your ooooh only when Thames touches the ball not during the whole possession. this should truly be a fun one, see ya in a few!!!!

i like this idea

This is the best basketball team the Pokes will face all season, so expecting a win is a bit of a stretch, even in the AA. Entering this 3 game gauntlet, I thought this was our best chance for a win, and I still feel that to be true. The Pokes have a fairly legitimate shot at pulling off the upset, but if I had to put my life on the line, I'd pick SDSU in this one. Basketball junkies recongize Wyoming is a scrappy, well-coached team with the potential to upset anybody, hence the reason the #5 team in the nation is only a 4 point favorite against us.

I expect this game to be very similar to the UNLV game. The final score will likely only be in the 40's or 50's so every posession is going to be key as points will be at a premium. Limiting turnovers and keeping SDSU off of the offensive glass wil be the keys to winning this game. Both of those are easier said than done as SDSU has a lot of lengthy athletes on their team. Should be a good one. I am very much looking forward to watching this game.

It wasn't 1998, but in 1996 the Utes came into Laramie with a solid team (ranked somewhere) and walked out with a loss. They had Keith VanHorn and Andre Miller was a freshman. Good game.

I remember that game, as well. They had won like 7-8 games in a row before coming to the AA, including blowing us out in SLC by over 20 points. Just goes to show the difference home court makes in college basketball.

Those Utah teams really brought some excitement to the conference. Kentucky was their achilies heel, beating them three straigh years in the NCAA Tournament (Sweet 16 in 1996, Elite 8 in 1997, and the championship game in 1998).

Completely agree. This'll be my 3rd pokes game. First was New Mexico, Second was the Nevada.

New to Laramie here as a Grad student in Communication.

Can. Not. Wait.

SDSU is deep, long, and athletic ... they will press us hard. Gave Nevada fits with the press. Friend ran into aztec assistants in coffee shop here today in Laramie and one of their coaches said their plan was to press, press, press. We gotta handle it and get some boards.

They were in the WAC with us at the time and we were playing for the conference championship if I remember right.

The game for the conf. title was in 2002 (MWC).

The game in 98 was great though. That was one of my favorite weekends of all-time. Shyatt's first time around and Pokes knocked off Utah on Thursday and BYU on Saturday in the AA (pretty sure I was wearing a "Shyatt Happens" t-shirt for the latter game, but memories are hazy...). Both were great crowds and the wins put the Pokes in to the bubble conversation.

I grew up with Wyoming basketball, but those experiences during my freshman year at UW played a big role in developing my life-long fandom for UW hoops. I hope our current students are able to enjoy similar experiences.
Has there been any push to get these made? I would buy one right now if they were available...

I hopes our plan is to get them to beat us from the foul line, because they really suck at free throws. I'm not saying intentionally foul, but if it comes down to the last few minutes and it's a few points different, I like WYOs chances.

22-20 Nance Looks Good. But #11 is a lazy bum sorry

Gotcha wyovian.... I just turned on thinking vs #5 a rival it'd be jam packed
