That said, I still think it should have been a penalty. If you run into the ball carrier 3 yards out of bounds inadvertently while trying to hold up, it's still a penalty. Celebrating and landing on our QB is a late hit.

That's where I stand too. I'd rather be taunted than injured because of reckless celebration, and taunting carries a penalty.

Open hand to the thigh. But he also came down on Josh's ankle. Either way I think it should have been a penalty. For either the ankle stomp (which happened first) or the open hand hit to the player below (even if it was just to break fall). Don't jump over the other teams players if you can't stay off them!

Rewatch and ask yourself, why did #95 need to pull his arm back like a person would when throwing a punch. If he was trying to maintain his balance, he wouldn't have needed to pull his arm back like he did. It was deliberate if you ask me....but missed its mark.

I'm leaning with you, for the reason you state. It looks like he cocked his arm. And even if it wasn't his intention when he came over to celebrate, he definately used the split second opportunity to get the cheap shot. This was a foul for sure, whether it was on purpose or not, and the ref was right there. Could you imagine if the games had to be called using intent? As a ref you call what happened, not what you think the player may have been thinking when the infraction occured. The ref should absolutely be suspended, or whatever it is they do with refs that suck this bad. And if I was #95 Noble Hall, I'd be looking over my shoulder the next couple of years when I faced the Pokes.

They should be above such actions, but really? They've spent 8 quarters the past 3 weeks hearing our students chant "Pumphreys a bitch!" He may very well be a bitch but I don't think you can do that and not expect something back from someone. I was by their tunnel as they entered/exited the field. I think we Wyoming fans pride ourselves on being a tough crowd but that's a two way street. I'm not going to pretend we would just smile and accept the trophy if the roles were reversed. When Van Mannen went down on their sideline their guys all took a knee around him and they all shook his hand on the way back to our bench.

Huh?! The facts are on film. The scumbag thug MF'er made a "fist" - and that is all the proof needed, for any kind of litigation (should the MWC office / UW chose to pursue)...any kind of conference punishment, any kind of suspension, anything. Whatever happens, there should be some repercussions, and the not just the thug MF'er, but the ref as well.

I found out it was because somebody took the time to edit the video. Click bait. I went back and watched the replay from the ESPN3 app. At 1 hr and 48 minutes into it, you can see the play. The guy jumped up, lost his balance, landed on Josh's ankle and caught himself with an open hand on Josh's thigh. It was certainly unnecessary and probably deserved a flag but editing the video to make it look dirty is much worse IMO.

I saw it from the stadium and thought it was a cheap shot as well. After rewatching it, I have no idea. Something should have probably been called.

It was a close game. We could have won that game on any number of merits. Officiating wasn't one of them.

Get a couple of D lineman trying to jump on each other's backs in the heat of the moment when the other one isn't looking and I'm sure you could come up with a thousand random little motions that may or may not look like something ergregiois. To me the most egregious thing on that clip is the official standing there and then doing nothing. Should have flagged it for celebrating so close to and making contact with a defenseless player on the ground but it's just so random, it's not a pre-meditated thing.

Others have said closed fist. What you interpret as a "guilty" look could also be a "oh shit, I didn't mean to touch him I hope I don't get a flag" look. We'll have to agree to disagree on this.

It's just amazing the official didn't throw a flag. The first part of the clip shows him running over with his hand up to stop the action and he is literally one foot from Allen on the ground, then it cuts to the jumping action where you can't exactly see how close the official was to the whole matter. The fact that he ran in with his hand up before the jumping and was right there and didn't throw a flag is ridiculous.
