Scrimmage Update

Brett Smith had a good scrimmage passing for 200 yds on 21-27 attempts and 2 tds(played mostly with the 2nd team). Robert Herron caught 8 passes so I hope he has worked through the drops he had last year.

Sounds like Daniel Sulliven will be making FGs when he comes in.

Schober though, sounds like he would be good for onside kicks, in that no one would want to catch the ball. lol

Gagliardi write-up:

Sounds like the Cowboys had a nice scrim. DC said #1 D was ahead of #1 O. #2 O better than #2 D. Sam Stratton apparently had a nice day at WR w/ 7 catches. Brett Smith was 21/27 for 200 yards.

O line struggled to start but looked good by the end of the scrim. the team looked very physical for a scrimmage. #16 arm looked good. They have a long way to go but I already feel better about things in general

it was hard to see from the west end of the IPF because they mostly played going east so we could not see the DBs

I don't want to be negative but after watching that video I don't see the kind of size and speed needed to be competitive this year.

You must have a better eye for football than I have.

KInd of hard to tell from a 3 min. video and only three interviews . I am coming up to Laramie to watch the next scrimmage, but I can't claim to be an expert on football talent. I think Gregg Brandon is a great hire though and I expect play calling to be improved this year (play calling last year was probably just as much a problem as thr talent in my opinion).

I'll be honest, from the angles they give it's pretty hard to tell a lot of the overall size in my opinion. However, we have to realize we aren't Texas or Auburn. Do we have the size to beat teams in the MWC and on our OOC schedule, absolutely. However, the one thing that I took from the video is that Emory Miller is TOO SMALL to play QB at the D1 MWC level and that Brett Smith at least looked size wise where we need to be at QB. They need Miller running plays at a slot position rotating in with Herron. The 5'11" listing seems very generous.
