Screw the CST

It seems I have used up their 15 complimentary viewings by reading Schmoldt's blog. I can pay them 2.95 a month, even though I'm a already asubscriber to the newspaper. Methinks I won't be renewing that sub. Screw 'em!

There's a way around it if you're using Firefox or Chrome.. I won't tell you how, but I can tell you that it exists. The paywall thing is kind of annoying.. I can see why they did it, but I think there's other ways to collect revenue. If page hits on the websites go down because people don't subscribe to the paywall, then advertising online goes down.. and that's a huge chunk of revenue. I found out that if you go over on one Lee newspaper site (ie the Missoulian) that you will also be over on other Lee papers (ie CST). So I read both the Missoulian, CST, and sometimes an article in the Billings Gazette.. once I hit the wall on one, it's on all of them.

The blog should be free, the online articles should be free if you subscribe to the paper. You shouldn't have to pay for the online and the paper. I ran into the same thing, although I don't subscribe to the paper so I have basically been mooching. Would it help if I click some banner ads for them?

Subscribed to the Boomerang (get the paper anyways) and never ran into those blocks.

Though I never pay for anything online unless I'm ordering something from say, Amazon.

I found out early that reading the "comments" part of the papers, as well as the public record also counts towards your page hits.. so within the first two days I hit the pay wall.

This is too bad. If I remember right, trib.com (CST) was one of the first newspapers in the nation to publish stories online in the dawn of the Internet Age.

I switched to Firefox and haven't had any issues. Now that I am used to it, I think Firefox is better than Safari anyway.
