UW didn't get a bid because they weren't very good this year, like most years. Plain and simple. For the folks complaining about BYU...they'd kick the shit outta UW this year and it isn't close. Shoulda, coulda, woulda beat this team or that team...the Cowboys didn't take care of business.
Besides, BYU takes more alumni to games than UW ever will and that's a fact pokes fans need to accept.
Don't like BYU getting in ahead of UW...win more games. Very simple.
True, the Pokes weren't good enough this year. Meanwhile, BYU squeaked by an Arizona team with a losing record and squeaked by a Wisconsin team that got stomped by Minnesota. Neither of these teams had a particular good year. Hell, BYU had a losing record vs. the MWC this year. They did play some tough teams, but they lost to them. We accomplished a similar feat. All of our losses were to teams that were ranked in at least one major poll at the end of the regular season with the exception of an 8 win team, that did get votes during the season. The new modern era (or should I say error?) of BYU is 4-9 last year and 6-6 this year. They haven't been decent since they crushed us by 3 points in 2016. I'm afraid that BYU is heading down the path of New Mexico State or Idaho, hoping for 6 wins and sneaking into minor bowl games. No Conference Championships, certainly no National Championships and a yearly beat down by their in-state rivals. I believe BYU got the bowl nod as the powers that be know they have a good sized fan base and this will be their last chance for a bowl game for years to come.
Looking at BYUs schedule next year it's guaranteed to be a losing one. BYU will lose all 3 games vs. MWC opponents and will obviously lose to Utah to open the season. If they don't get by Toledo, they could start out 0-8. I want to give you Toledo, but it's an away game. What the hell, I'll give you Toledo and I'll give you a 3 game win streak vs. the murderers row you have scheduled towards the end of the season against Liberty, Idaho State and UMass. That's it. A second 4 win season in 3 years.
The real blood bath for BYU is 2020. BYU may seriously only win one game in 2020 vs. North Alabama. It is an impressive schedule. If your entire coaching staff is rightfully fired after this season, the new staff may get it in gear by 2020 and you might pull off another 3 or 4 win season. But everything would need to fall into place perfectly. But at least BYU is still a good basketball school, right? A game over .500 in the WAC. Not to shabby...
