How many schollies will we have for the 2014 group? I'm only counting 1 is that right? Do we have any that coach is holding back.

Sobey is our only junior so yeah probably.

Next year:
FR(3) Trey Washington-PG, Keonta Vernon-PF, Alan Herndon-PF
SO(4) Josh Adams-PG, Jason McManamen-SG, Aaron Tyser-SG, Austin Haldorson-PF
JR(6) Riley Grabau-PG, Jack Bentz-SG, Charles Hankerson Jr.-SF, Derek Cooke Jr.-PF, Larry Nance Jr.-PF, Matt Sellers-C
SR(1) Nathan Sobey-SG

I think you are correct. Never know what may happen between now and then though.

I thought Tyser was a walk on & so is Bentz.. I maybe wrong.. thats why I was asking if we had another one to give out..

They both are, but the scholarship limit is 13.

Gotta cut Sellers loose after this season. Use that scholly for the talent coming out in 2014 in the Denver area.

I would think that Bentz might be awarded a scholly after his significant playing time but I don't know.

I hate to say it, but I agree. We are never going to compete with the big 3 (maybe big 4 if CSU keeps it up), with players like Sellers on scholarship. Need to cut ties and get someone with some impactful upside.

Not worried abuot CSU after all their seniors are gone next year. And, I hate offering a scholarship to a kid and then revoking it. But if we can land some immediate help then I would be okay with it. Who else on the roster doesn't have a high ceiling?

How did Sellers even get the scholly? It looks like at Western Wyoming he averaged about 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds a game as a freshman. I mean, those stats show that over the next 3 years that he might grow into a pretty productive player but the problem here is that those stats would be productive as the juco level. Not the D1 level.
I think Shyatt jumped the gun too quickly trying to replace Wadell.

I agree cut the kid, he will have a scholly for school, kinda like Sylla did a few years ago.

Umm Bentz? I don't know, I think everyone on the team has a pretty high ceiling, or at least decent ceiling besides Sellers.

thinking its going to be a huge dropoff from next year, way too many fresh faces, this gets old

I disagree, think we'll be at least as good. Hankerson will help solve our biggest problem so far of the Shyatt era (perimeter athleticism and playmaking ability) as will year two of the Josh Adams Experience. Continued development by Nance will help make up for the loss of Washington, and Cooke will be able to contribute more in the defense/rebounding areas. We'll need at least one of the young big men to step up and provide some some good minutes off the bench, and we'll need Grabau to grow into the PG role, but I don't see how we won't be at least comparable to this year's team.

That being said, Shyatt sees the writing on the wall in regards to this season and is giving the young dudes some more burn to build for the next season, which is a plan I wholeheartedly endorse. Time for Haldorson, McManamen, et. al. to start learning on the job.

Sellers got a schollie because a big body is valuable in practice. You have 13 schollies and Shy probably thought it was worth it giving him a scholarship just to have some size in practice and the hope they he can maybe play one day

If Grabau ever starts this program is headed in the wrong direction. He couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

I think Grabau can be a valuable role player. He's not a star. You never know, some kids grow up. He's been in college 1.5 years and he's fairly crafty.
