Sawvel's Contract

What is CJC's role in the era of NIL? Isn't the game now to get direct funding to pay the players, or is that facilitated through CJC?
I believe that is all run through CJC now. Of course, that is never really the intent of how NIL was supposed to work, but it is the reality of what it has become when there are limited to no guardrails and very limited enforcement of what few rules do exist.

Agree 100%. If someone offers me a contract that is undeservedly favorable to me, I sure as hell am not turning it down. It is a nice gesture of him to turn over a small amount of that money over when you really don't have to.

I've said it on here several times before - Sawvel seems like a nice enough guy that one would enjoy having beers with. He also seems to really care about the players and hopes to win games. The problem is (from what we have consistently seen going all the way to his Arizona State debut to the welcome home Josh Allen debacle against lowly Nevada), he doesn't appear to have any of the necessary skills or ability to be successful as a head coach of an FBS team.

Regardless, I don't see any scenario where Sawvel is not Wyoming's head coach next year. I don't see large donors stepping up to fix Burman's mess (apathy has set in). There is no viable option to pay Sawvel and pay the money to bring in a new staff absent such donors. What a mess we are in due to this shockingly poorly thought out negotiated contract that Burman stuck the University with.
This is why we are where we are, success wise, conference wise, everything. Loser culture. "Oh, well. We do pretty good for Wyoming!" Sternberg Report.

I'm frankly shocked we haven't dropped to FCS, with our pathological loser/quitter mentality.

FCS will find us soon enough - and the rest of the G5 (or whatever the number is today INCLUDING the vaunted new PAC12). We will just lift the floor instead of raising the ceiling. P2 with defectors from the ACC and Big 12 will break away and we will be with whatever we call the leftovers. And it can't happen soon enough. People hate the current state of MLB...but the NCAA has been a worse version of the MLB since the cartel was initiated in the BCS era. At least MLB has a luxury tax and some semblance of trade restrictions. The P2 has been extremely successful at rigging the game, hoarding money and consolidating power and now has the gall to lament that the rest of us poors just couldn't keep up so they just have to leave us behind. Greedy SOBs. When it happens, the P2 can go straight to hell.

2030 the ACC will implode when TV rights expire and then 70 teams will break away. And teams like Cincy will be back with the poors

It wouldn't shock me if Oklahoma State ends up with us. Wonder how many of the current Big 12 teams will fall to our level.

Their donor base is too big. What will be funny is to see Northwestern and Rutgers down in the poor land though both are in good TV markets

Probably will split into three tiers I am guessing:

Tier 1 - most of the SEC, Big10, ACC
Tier 2 - those leftover that have massive athletic budgets
Tier 3 - the rest

yes, UW could have been in tier 2; our 25 year downward trajectory has put UW in tier III which will be FCS or FCS-like.
The most frustrating thing to me is that Burman has been there throughout the ENTIRE downward spiral. The BOT and President(s) did nothing. At one point Burman himself admitted that he had not hired quality coaches I believe it was after the Christensen debacle, yet still got paid very well to continue doing this. I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with Reeves for not dismissing him already as Reeves has indicated winning is "non-negotiable." Apparently Burman didn't know this for the past 22 years and now that the President has told him he is suddenly going to turn this around? I guess that's the plan . . .
