Sawvell, Burman and conference realignment

Burman does a shit job promoting Wyo to be a part of conference realignment. It was never his goal. Wyo should be promoting our tv viewership is great, Laradise is awesome, Cowboys are sexy, look how big our D is swagger. Control the narrative and stop letting these other places put us down. Partner with the schools that have a better vision and aren't content to see what happens. Hype our facilities and investments. You have to promote Wyoming.....to get the good attention and invites. Get a Cowboy not a wet blanket and get us in Pac!

I would also like to take this time to announce that the War re-seating was just as much a shit show as the AA, and it looks like we went on the cheap again. Just stupid.
I’ve noticed that the re-seated area was about half empty for both Idaho and BYU while the rest of the stadium was relatively full. This being despite the fact that the re-seated area was sold out.

I’m finally understanding the potential thought process here. Sell seats to wealthy folks and companies who won’t come to games to guarantee a certain minimum amount of cash flow, hire a coach who don’t win many games so then no one notices a problem when the rest of the stadium empties.

Unfortunately, I agree with you completely. He fucked up the AA, and now the War. Again, crickets.

In one of the older interviews, Burman was discussing DEN being treated as the home airport for CSU but not Wyoming based on distance. I don’t recall all the specifics of that discussion but DEN to Fort Collins is like a 45 minute drive and a much longer trip to Laramie.

We can no longer argue that we have a nicer football stadium. CSU’s is nicer (as bad as an investment as it may be).
If DEI is a driver, why are most major corporations eliminating DEI? There is a good reason.

CSewe uses the Northern Colorado Loveland airport as much as DIA.

It's not just west coast....I do consulting work for colleges up and down the front range in an industry that has no logical DEI connection and the question comes up in interviews.
It may be nuts but it’s absolutely a factor. Colorado requires lawyers to take DEI courses to simply maintain a license to practice law.

If you don’t believe DEI is a topic of discussion - Sit in on a faculty or Board meeting at a California or West Coast school…
I argued against you that the legislature's actions with regard to dei wouldn't do anything but you were right. It might have added 1 more hurdle to get into the pac (our chances are remote anyway obviously).

Dei is such a huge issue for many of these universities that they may strongly consider our state actions when considering UW as an expansion target.

I don’t need to read past California. Enough said. Not a great example.
It doesnt matter what we believe in Wyoming. The PAC is a west coast centered league and what we do here matters.

It’s the same missing the point argument I hear why we shouldn’t allow nuclear and solar development in Wyoming. Yes - fossil fuels are great low cost reliable sources of energy. But our consumers who we sell the energy to (California) are only buying non-carbon emitting sources and paying higher prices. They don’t want to purchase fossil fuel energies and we would be crazy not to produce what they want.

Here’s a simple example - If you run a restaurant and everyone loves beef burgers but you only offer turkey because you personally find it a better meat, you won’t be operating very long. It’s about meeting the demand of the consumer…not the personal beliefs of the seller.

Right or wrong....UW will have to kick the door down with real football success. All the window dressing and facilities improvements will not make anybody not from Wyoming fall in love with Laramie. Traveling to Laramie has been hated by Wyoming's conference mates forever. The road is at least clear now. The cowboys must win, win, and then win some more. We are not ever going to win a beauty contest in this stuff. We are going to have to shove success down the throat's of schools that don't want us in their conference.... There is no other way.

The real puzzler to me is the PAC used to be extremely proud of their academics, how in the heck do you go from Stanford, Cal, etc. to Boise State. Candidly I think all the DEI, academics etc talk is window dressing and it all comes down to media markets for TV

It's so disingenuous... If they like you or your market there is nothing they won't overlook... And in the other direction, if they don't like you there are endless reasons not to extend an invitation.

If Wyoming had 2x the population - both for the state and the student population - Wyoming would have gotten the invite.

It's that simple.

Is that why the PAC is considering:
Tulane - 13,000 students
SMU - 12,000 students
Rice - 8200 students
No - they are considering New Orleans and Houston with world-class educational reputations.

( I don't think Rice is much of a candidate at this point, though. The focus appears to be Tulane, UTSA and Memphis.)

SMU is in Dallas and they basically paid to get in the ACC by not taking any TV money for like a decade.

So you’re saying we are screwed.
