Sawvel - biggest loser

What's worse...that he's lying and was trying to keep the score close or that he is not lying and he thought what he was doing was his best chance?

I told the boys in the group chat this, but how many possessions did he think he was going to get with 4:30 on the clock? The defense hadn't really forced any Colorado 3 and outs all game, they only needed a somewhat sustained drive to put it away.. and didn't even use a timeout to try to get the ball back. Just plain and simple coaching malfeasance. Brock and Dave were absolutely correct to call him out, and I think I said this on the post-game show on Saturday, but any answer he gave was just going to infuriate us even more. And right on queue, he said things in his press conf that made us angry because he didn't understand the urgency and being made look like he quit.

Even IF 4:30 is somehow enough time to score twice, we started that drive with 11:14 to play. Sawvel says 4:30 is the magic cutoff, but why wouldn't we still do everything we can to score sooner? If Sawvel says we didn't want to burn timeouts yet, okay sure. But he somehow doesn't understand that there are more things you can do to save clock than burning timeouts. I think a 12 year old playing Madden could tell you that.

If you tell Deion, up 30-13 with 11:30 left, that CU will give up a touchdown but it will take 7 minutes of game clock to happen, they are fine with that trade-off, which tells you everything you need to know. Or you could just look at ESPN's win probability:

Wyoming gets the ball with 11:14 left - 0.8%
Wyoming scores with 4:32 left - 0.7%

So we actually became less likely to win based on the time it took to score. It took so long that it was meaningless.

LOL Mike Gundy is available now. Wonder how Okie State got the $15 million to buy out his contract.

BTW, Gundy aint coming to Laramie even if we do fire Sawvel. Gundy loves Oklahoma State way too much to move north.

I completely understand why people are upset at Sawvel for the way he approached our last touchdown drive. There is no doubt it was poor clock management on his part. However, I doubt it had any impact on the outcome of that game. We had already lost it.

What's sort of getting lost in all of this is the fact that we played like complete dog shit in the first half. And we played like shit against Utah. And we looked like shit against Akron. And we had several stretches where we looked like shit against Northern Iowa. And we played like shit for 80% of last year.

How much shitty play do we have to see before we step up and get rid of this guy?

I don't agree. Had we scored with 6 minutes left and tried the onsides kick and been successful, who knows what might have happened. CU had been stuck in neutral most of the 4th quarter. We have come back before - at least when we tried to win the game (see Texas Tech). And that drive represented far more than one series - it represented a loser's approach to a game that I would use 10 days out of 10 if I was ever recruiting against Sawful. I would send that footage (complete with the audio of the announcers in absolute apoplexy) to the kid and ask if he wants to win or whether he in into moral victories. We lose that recruiting fight every damned time because Jay showed that he is more interested in "keeping it close" than trying to win. I'm a homer and that's what I came away thinking. Imagine being a young kid that has no tie to Wyoming.

The rest of your post - I absolutely agree.
