Sawvel - biggest loser

Sawful, translation from his presser. This thing could have got away from us, we could have lost by 25 or more so we really believe we won the game because we only lost by 10 and that’s why we managed the clock so well in the last 10
Minutes. We did a great job of clock management, I pretty much ran it out.

I watched every miserable minute of that game. There is no doubt in my mind that he regarded the game as OOC exhibition. He gave up on those kids and the fans. Calling his first t/o with 2:11 on the clock? No onside kick. No hurry-up offense. Didn't they even assess a delay of game penalty with like 7 minutes left?

He needs to apologize to every defensive player. He needs to apologize to the kids that could have transferred but didn't. He needs to apologize to the entire Pokes fanbase. I am a lot more embarrassed of the coaches than the kids.

Let's see how long it takes Wisconsin to make a change.

I was honestly surprised to see he was asked about it in the post-game press conference.

He basically started rambling about being in rhythm and not wanting to give up the rhythm even though the game situation clearly dictated that he do exactly that. His plan seemed to be:

1. Take however long is necessary to stay in rhythm and score a touchdown.
2. Get a 3 and out.
3. Score another touchdown quickly
4. Recover an onside kick.
5. Kick a FG to tie the game.

Sounds like a plan with a high chance of success coach!

Ok I get why you kickoff down 10 with 4 minutes left and 3 timeouts in your pocket. What I do not get not being more willing toc all some timeouts once Colorado had the ball. Those timeout are better to use before the 2 minutes marks as you can stop the clock in college with first downs , out of bounds or incompletions once you which the 2 minute mark.
Sawvel and the coaching staff do not seem to be very organized. Several times I noticed Wyoming players asking for the signal for the next play only to rushed at the line because the play callers were so slow in getting the play in.

So, how about this: don't friggin' huddle. Don't run down the play clock to below 10 seconds each play of the drive that will put you within 10 points. Try the onside kick - whether you get it or not, you are still in the same position as you were in trying to get a stop, you just happened to give yourself another chance at getting the ball back "cheap" with the onside kick. I get that OS kicks have less than 10% chance of succeeding, but not kicking OS gives you 0% chance of success.

He can take issue with what the announcers were saying, but fact is, they were right, and he was and still is wrong. He looks like a quitter. He looks like he is more than happy to accept moral victories. He looks like he doesn't play the game to win. All I am left to think is: Good luck recruiting kids to play in that program, Coach.

Didn't the drive start with over 10 mins? He's now claiming the goal was to score by 4:30. Maybe just me but if you're down by that much with around 10 minutes left and your goal is to score by 4:30, I'm not sure that's better?

Goober got called out on national television and is now trying to save face. He even made notes. Being down by 17 with 10 minutes to play in the 4th quarter means your team needs at least 3 possessions to win. There was no hurry up or even uptempo offense. In fact, they were taking the play clock down to almost 0 (even got a delay of game penalty).

He wasn’t coaching to win the game. He was coaching to keep the score close. Neither happened. This guy is an idiot and blowing smoke up my ass is prohibited. The clock management in the 4th quarter was an abomination. It shocked the announcers and it disgusted the few fans that stayed up late to watch it.

I told the boys in the group chat this, but how many possessions did he think he was going to get with 4:30 on the clock? The defense hadn't really forced any Colorado 3 and outs all game, they only needed a somewhat sustained drive to put it away.. and didn't even use a timeout to try to get the ball back. Just plain and simple coaching malfeasance. Brock and Dave were absolutely correct to call him out, and I think I said this on the post-game show on Saturday, but any answer he gave was just going to infuriate us even more. And right on queue, he said things in his press conf that made us angry because he didn't understand the urgency and being made look like he quit.
