What an absolute embarrassment this team is. I know many on this board have given Wicks the benefit of the doubt given a short recruiting cycle, etc (myself included). At this point though, my opinion of his coaching ability has faded. It's as if he puts his own pride ahead of winning games.
I know he's a huge fan of Cole Henry but the guy really should never be on the floor. He gave up at least 20 points defensively today against a terrible SJSU team and Wicks continued to trot him back out there - to give up more layups. Simply put, Cole Henry is the worst defensive big I have ever seen at Wyoming (been listening/watching since Dembo/Leckner years). And, his offensive ability is severely limited while shooting under 50% from the free throw line. Why does he play?
Wicks clearly has issues with Ebube and Newton as they rarely play. I don't care if Ebube fouls out in 5 minutes, he's a far superior player to Cole Henry or any other option we have down low. He should be in EVERY game until he fouls out. Newton is shooting 40%+ from three this year and played 8 minutes today (7 minutes against AF). Apparently he also us on Wicks' "naughty list." Where's the coaching? Where are the adjustments? Where are the substitution patterns that make actual sense? How about playing the players that can actually help us win?
To lose to this team at home is really inexcusable. I'm sorry, this loss has less to do with the talent we have on the floor and more to do with a coach that appears to be putting his pride ahead of winning basketball games. We couldn't even win the battle for 8th place at home today....
