San Diego State

As we ponder what the future will be, lets not delude ourselves into thinking that certain people who matter a whole lot with the WYO Football program haven't noticed the job that ROCKY LONG has done with San Diego State this season-- or the shocking road win featuring gutty play calling in Boise yesterday.

Speaking of Rocky, ya think he's happy in Mission Valley? Or could the terrain of Laramie be something he'd be up for?

On the other side of the coin, I guess one could argue that we softened up Boise State the week before and had them just right for a SDSU upset!

Don't really want someone that would up and leave from their alma mater after tearing them up one side and down the other with recruiting similar to Joe Glenn's talent wise and then go on to be a conference rival's DC (and later HC).

And all SDSU had to focus on was the run game. Southwick is not really a good QB at all. They have a couple of decent recievers and a good o-line, but their QB sucks. So all SUDS had to do was stuff the run and keep an eye out for the occasional pass.

Besides, good chance he'll retire there. He's also inconsistent. He lost to Washington, got boatraced by Fresno, and lost to SJSU, but eeked out a win against a 1 dimensional BSU.

lol Yeah it was deinitely us who softened up boise for sdsu haha

but I doubt Rocky Long comes here. He has a good gig. SDSU is a joke in football unless he makes them something.
They are headed to the big east, a weaker conference than the MWC until this year. But now the Big East will be much stronger than us unfortunately. On top of that, he will have his team on ESPN a few games a season. We made it onto regional tv a couple times...

Basically sdsu is going to be as good as he makes them. so why leave sdsu for wyo?

Rocky is doing a great job with all of Hoke's recruits...very well thought out post Doc. Rocky is on the downside of his career, and will retire, when that job retires him. I definitely wouldn't want him in Laramie.

I shoulda mentioned I was being somewhat sarcastic about Long as a viable candidate in the event a change is made.

As to this; "all San Diego State had to do" talk? Dude are you serious?

If that's all it took/takes then I wanna schedule a re-match at The War next week -- because a Wyoming win is practically guaranteed based upon the; "all we have to do" talk.

Unfortunetly, our defense made the sheep's QB look like he was trying out for the Heisman trophy, and got shredded by Idaho. So, yeah.

Id love to have Rocky as our D-Coordinator. New Mexico really set their program back when they got rid of him...although I think UNM is headed in the right direction.

As far as Laramie, I dont think Rocky likes Laramie at all! I remember the game when there was the delay (I believe lightning) and the game when UNM had to have their team busses escorted on the closed I-80.

If I remember correctly, the game with the delay we were playing well and the delay took the wind out of us and UNM just took over. That bit of weather had a direct effect on Joe Glenn's firing IMO.

Buddy I'll tell you what...you need to get down on that sideline next to Coach Christensen, because with all this 'all we have to do stuff', next year the MWC is ours.

Once you and Coach C settle that all up, if I were Alabama and Note Dame, I'd watch my ass.

I've always thought Rocky Long was a bad choice for head coach at SDSU. He was pretty average at New Mexico. He does put together some pretty good defenses though. I believe he is just cruising on Brady Hokes coattails.

Anyways, their defense looks pretty stellar this year, and I would love to field that defense right now. They appear to have a few good running backs now that Hillman left.

Their win over Boise is impressive - but I doubt it happens again for a long, long time.

That last drive they had yesterday on a 4th and 2 and to go for it and convert it...I be liking stuff like that.

As I recall earlier this season, we had a 4th & 1 in a game on the road late, converting it would have sealed the game...we punted, and went on to lose.

That was a balsey play and the icing on the cake. I'd really like to be able to do that as well. I'd like it even better if we pulled away by 3 or 4 touchdowns by the end of the game. I don't see that happening this year. One day we will field a complete, balanced, and over-competitive team.

In the mean time, we just have to hope our defense puts up enough of a fight to slow the other teams down just enough we can outscore them. (I know, I read it too after I typed it out - "the quarterback can see much better now that he put his glasses back on."

You youngsters do know that Rocky was Wyoming's defensive coordinator from '81 through '85 right?

You mean when the WAC was all offense and no defense?

Actually just prior to that. The WAC was just becoming that way at the time which was prior to the Dennis E. and Roach stints. Wyo's offenses and defenses were balanced but not spectacular during the Kincaid years, when Rocky was the D.C.
Pokes were even up in wins/losses for those five years.
