Heard she addressed some legislators in Laramie on Saturday. A lot of references to "your State" and "your University". Hmmmmm, no "our"?!McPeachy said:stymeman said:the answer to this, imo is, UW needs to decide if it wants to be a football or basketball school and pool more resources in that pool, ie if we pick basketball, create a culture, make the top 25 more often than not then the teams and recruits should come
Please god, not this again.
I like you stymeman, but UW needs to decide to be competitive (PERIOD) in everything, and get going. And that starts with our "CSewe Ram Through & Through" President, Whorey Laurie Nichols, and our "Do More With Less" AD Spermin' Tom Burman.
We suck pretty bad this year, too. People wanted to come, but from the first exhibition game ( 8k attendance!) we gave people a reason not to come. It'll take a few years of sustained success to get attendance back to a good level. we haven't sustained success in over a decade.Cosmic Cowboy said:It's just a bummer that the attendance hasn't ever come back from the Heath era. I mean combine Heath plus the recession and it's like somehow the attendance just went into this other blackhole universe. Did people just get used to not coming and saving dough? Clearly the students aren't even as close to being into it. The attendance is the same as years past and when I went there it was a thing for 3 out of 4 years. We sucked bad for 3 out of those 4 too!

I forgot about that too. The renovations have clearly been a debacle as I've just seen nothing but bright yellow empty seats OVER and OVER AGAIN. I need to get back to the AA to see it all for myself. How ever the shakedown went it has made an energy hole in the stands which sucks! :thumbdown:elfletcho said:You can't compare the eras. You have to look at as before the renovation and after the renovation. Before the renovation people had their season tickets for 30 years. They didn't have to pay 1000 bucks a year for the blessed opportunity to purchase their seats. After the renovation, very few of the Laramie faithful can sit in the new seats. The athletic department did this to themselves. I'm up in the knothole where there is no mandatory tithing requirement. They are great seats, but you won't ever see me on TV since the camera's don't point up that high. The only segment of fans that really has no excuse are the damned students. There was maybe 1500 of them here last night. Very poor showing.

Those empty seats look so comfy too![]()
Thanks for this perspective purp! Good to know things happening on campus. Still there just isn't that same fire in the students as past. Not sure how many seats there are for you guys know but it would be a good 1/8 to 1/4 of the building in students back in the day??BigPurp278 said:From a students perspective.. Honestly, most students don't evne know when the games are. We have an information-overload problem.
We get 5-10 emails from UW a day, so they get instantly deleted, the UW Athletic Posters are so commonplace that noone takes time to look at them. Social Media only works if you're already interested in that content. As far as I know the only game-day specific ads I've seen are those cheap, trashy white Tri-Fold boards around campus.. Often times they're not updated. I saw a CSU one just today...
If you want to get students out, you need to get them where they are. Have a larger presence in the Union, Half Acre, Classroom Building, the Residence Halls. You can't expect them to just show up because it's occurring.
If I hadn't put all the M & W home games in my calendar when the season started, I probably wouldn't have known there was even a game going on. Not everyone goes to the Athletics Website.
That's just my :twocents:, though.
