Sad Showing of Attendance on CBS

Really disappointed with the local fans not showing up to watch the boys play on CBS against SDSU. Thousands of empty seats. We need to represent.

Wednesday night game at 8 PM with it being televised...sadly I'm not surprised. Anyone have an attendance number?

Its what 20 degrees outside, Wyoming should give tickets away to fill those seats, we need to show the nation and the TV networks that Wyoming fans SHOW UP......

Right now we are #7 in the conference and we were #4 last year and the attendance SUCKED and we still won. Laramie locals need to step up.

Perhaps these clues will explain why a barren land that lacks human habitation as compared to 49 other states in total count does not produce crowds:

1. Winning the MWC Tourney had about as much fan impact as a Lakers win this week will make LA fans start talk of making the NBA semi-finals next year.
2. Finishing 4th last year as the best finish in like 12 years just does not make fans want to drive from Cheyenne in howling winds and cold temperatures this year when the team is now 11-16 versus D1 this year and is 100% assured of a LOSING MWC season. If the Cheyenne folks don't go, so goes the attendance.
3. Wyoming fans are not exactly wowed by the AA renovation and seating requirements for better seats to watch a program that LOSES more than it wins in MWC action.
4. Oh yes - lack of human habitation. Please note the only location in the MWC more than 100 miles from an airport served by Southwest (insert any airline route map here and notice how Wyoming is FLYOVER country):

P.S. Win, win consistently, win big games/small games, get votes for the top 25 and the fans will come.

the answer to this, imo is, UW needs to decide if it wants to be a football or basketball school and pool more resources in that pool, ie if we pick basketball, create a culture, make the top 25 more often than not then the teams and recruits should come

Please god, not this again.

I like you stymeman, but UW needs to decide to be competitive (PERIOD) in everything, and get going. And that starts with our "CSewe Ram Through & Through" President, Whorey Laurie Nichols, and our "Do More With Less" AD Spermin' Tom Burman.

Heard she addressed some legislators in Laramie on Saturday. A lot of references to "your State" and "your University". Hmmmmm, no "our"?!

FYI, Attendance was 5408 last night, that is pretty sad, even despite all the barriers, I was expecting at least 7000.

It's just a bummer that the attendance hasn't ever come back from the Heath era. I mean combine Heath plus the recession and it's like somehow the attendance just went into this other blackhole universe. Did people just get used to not coming and saving dough? Clearly the students aren't even as close to being into it. The school attendance is the same as years past and when I went there it was a thing for 3 out of 4 years. We sucked bad for 3 out of those 4 too!

We suck pretty bad this year, too. People wanted to come, but from the first exhibition game ( 8k attendance!) we gave people a reason not to come. It'll take a few years of sustained success to get attendance back to a good level. we haven't sustained success in over a decade.

You can't compare the eras. You have to look at as before the renovation and after the renovation. Before the renovation people had their season tickets for 30 years. They didn't have to pay 1000 bucks a year for the blessed opportunity to purchase their seats. After the renovation, very few of the Laramie faithful can sit in the new seats. The athletic department did this to themselves. I'm up in the knothole where there is no mandatory tithing requirement. They are great seats, but you won't ever see me on TV since the camera's don't point up that high. The only segment of fans that really has no excuse are the damned students. There was maybe 1500 of them here last night. Very poor showing.

I forgot about that too. The renovations have clearly been a debacle as I've just seen nothing but bright yellow empty seats OVER and OVER AGAIN. I need to get back to the AA to see it all for myself. How ever the shakedown went it has made an energy hole in the stands which sucks!
Those empty seats look so comfy too ;)

The renovation was great. Seats are nice, lights are great. Floor is awesome. Somehow that all translated to "let's eff over our most loyal fans" in the minds of the athletic department.

I see a lot of people bitching about terrible attendance having to look at empty yellow seats on their TV screens... Get off your asses and get to the game.... The out of staters are one thing, but not every single person in this thread lives out of Wyoming

Pretty poor, I would agree. I would have hoped to see more there last night to see how we rate against the best team in the conference on our own court.

From a students perspective.. Honestly, most students don't evne know when the games are. We have an information-overload problem.

We get 5-10 emails from UW a day, so they get instantly deleted, the UW Athletic Posters are so commonplace that noone takes time to look at them. Social Media only works if you're already interested in that content. As far as I know the only game-day specific ads I've seen are those cheap, trashy white Tri-Fold boards around campus.. Often times they're not updated. I saw a CSU one just today...

If you want to get students out, you need to get them where they are. Have a larger presence in the Union, Half Acre, Classroom Building, the Residence Halls. You can't expect them to just show up because it's occurring.

If I hadn't put all the M & W home games in my calendar when the season started, I probably wouldn't have known there was even a game going on. Not everyone goes to the Athletics Website.

That's just my :twocents:, though.

Thanks for this perspective purp! Good to know things happening on campus. Still there just isn't that same fire in the students as past. Not sure how many seats there are for you guys know but it would be a good 1/8 to 1/4 of the building in students back in the day??
That could be some fuzzy   :puke: math... They got loud too and we said all kinds of crazy shit which you probably would get policed on these days  not saying it was all right but it was right at the time if that makes sense
