WOW!!

Wow. This is really moving fast. A guy on some other board that Billings has been following (a Wyoming insider, apparently) has been saying that since BSU joined (said BSU would be coming back before anyone else), things would be moving rather quickly for the MWC, like within the next 2 weeks or so, the MWC will be expanding more.

be ready for it 16 team Football league is where we are heading it is either do it now of suffer a year down the road when someone else does it and that is where the media attention goes.

I don't know... the hair likes to expand only a couple per year. Part of me thinks he goes to 12, stays pat for a few months to execute the paperwork for divison split and championship game. expanding to 12 takes a couple of meetings with university presidents to figure that stuff out.

I think expanding to 14, possibly 16, is on the longterm agenda.

However, on the other hand, if we don't go big now... will it hurt us in the long haul? would we be able to secure future members if we didn't pass out invites now? or are we going to wait and watch what the G5 conferences do? the sec is the only conference right now at 14.

the press out there right now is that The Hair is on the attack, taking an aggressive stance to expansion. the university of new mexico AD is talking about how strongly we are looking at texas schools.

My opinion on this... there will be some watering down of our tier 1 payout for a couple of years. the bonus system will attempt to balance this out. in addition, being able to contract out tier2-3 games, all teams should make more money.

This makes complete sense. We just brought BSU back into the fold by giving them a similar deal that BYU demanded before going independent. Just take the BSU agreement and replace all the "BSU" with "BYU".

BYU can't come back until SDSU rejects joining the MW, correct? Doesn't SDSU have right of first refusal?

WOW!!

notice how the wcc commish left the name here blank? what if he has 2 universities that are about to leave?

bring back byu as full member... also bring in gonzaga as basketball member to offset hawaii.

we would have 12 members football, and 12 members basketball. those additions would make us completely forget sandiego state. things that make you go "hmmmm"

now it looks like sandiego state is back in the lead of this horse race. mountain west board showing that the hair was on the tim brando show, stating "he is on the phone with sandiego every 20 minutes".

what a broadway musical this has turned into? or maybe circus act. with every new turn i keep hearing clown music in my head. obos and accordians...

Yes. We don't know if SDSU has already refused the MWC's initial offer. The MWC could have made a ridiculous offer that SDSU had to refuse. SDSU's right to good faith negotiations only come as a 3rd party beneficiary to the contract between BSU and the MWC. 3rd party beneficiary claims are difficult to win.

Also, nothing precludes the MWC from entering negotiations with other schools during the right of first refusal period.

Interesting legal issues for sure...but it is all speculation because we as fans are not privy to the same information.

That, or SUDS may have said no and the MWC is moving on.

BTW, I was stunned when I stumbled upon the WCC tweet. It is unbelievable that a conference commissioner would go to twitter to make such a statement before anything is finalized. As a conference commissioner you have to maintain professionalism and be way above that.

any of you guys ever see the espn DJ mixes... they had one about randy moss... most recently they had one about the nfl season; it was kinda christmas themed?

we need to hire that dj to do and mountain west/big east expansion mix... have jim sterk making stupid comments over and over again. have bsu tap dancing between conferences...

that shyt would be FUNNY.

couldn't the MWC give suds a deadline?

See sdsu screwed themselves because of 2 things, 1. They have until Jan 31st and 2. They have 0 room to negotiate they have to take whatever the MWC is offering and you can bet they won't come in smelling like roses.

If the rumors are true, it means either San Diego State has already accepted or said no. I'm guessing they accepted the invite, because you'd have to be a damn fool to stick with the train wreck that is the Big East. If both are in, I'm guessing the MWC invites old conference mate UTEP back into the fold.

A lot of people think that 16 teams is the answer, but I think that 14 would be big enough. You have to consider that Air Force needs a minimum of 4 OOC games a year for football because they're locked in with Army and Navy. If UTEP, BYU, and SDSU are all in, divisions would probably look like this:

Mountain Division
Wyoming
Colorado State
Air Force
New Mexico
UTEP
Utah State
BYU

West Division
Hawaii
San Diego State
Fresno State
San Jose State
UNLV
Nevada
Boise State

If 16 though, it opens the door for Houston and SMU, 2 places that the Front Range schools do a lot of recruiting.

I wouldnt be shocked to see UTEP left out. I'd assume the MWC's main target is Houston and I would assume Houston would require either SMU or Rice as a travel partner.

BTW, Rice Village is a great part of Houston and it is an outstanding University. They don't draw a lot of athletic support due to the nature of the school (see all engineering institutions), but they have some serious alumni donors.
