Was told that Dr. Johnson passed away yesterday. So very sad if true, my thoughts and prayers to him, his family, and his UW family. RIP Kurt Johnson, MD.

Death of UW Physician Kurt Johnson​

UW Community,

We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of a member of the University of Wyoming community: Dr. Kurt Johnson, the medical director for UW Athletics, died Monday following a sudden illness.

Dr. Johnson was a beloved member of the UW Athletics team, providing expert, compassionate care for our student-athletes, coaches and others. A graduate of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, he joined UW as our medical director in July 2023.

No funeral or memorial arrangements have yet been announced. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Johnson’s wife and three children. We are working closely with our student-athletes and others affected by this news and will continue to provide them with support.

Dr. Johnson’s passing is the third death of a UW employee in the last two weeks. During this especially difficult time, please watch out for one another.
