Interesting article....worth a read. He's a clear walk-on anywhere, but it's nice to see a Wyomingite succeed.

What was his recruitment like? Was Shyatt not interested or what?
I don't know the whole situation...but I know he went to a JC in Wyoming. He went to some obscure school in Texas after that, and frankly I'm not sure how Leon Rice got him to Boise State. There was really no reason to believe Heyer is anything more than a walk-on. He still is. No disrespect, but Shyatt is finding better players.

We'll see who the true Wyoming better player is, I hope he gets some PT., betcha Washakie County is making the trek to Laramie this weekend

Anyone who has watched Boise this year knows Robert has been very good for them. He plays great defense, rebounds, passes, and shoots very well. He's the perfect glue guy and would be playing 20+ minutes a night if he were a Cowboy. His status as a walk-on is the only thing hurting his minutes.

All 10 of them? :)

As a Washakie County guy.. good for him. His dad was my PE teacher and golf coach in HS. He gon' get beat this weekend though.

I liked Heyer's skill set in high school. I watched a number of his HS games when I lived in Worland. The kid has post skills and a nice stroke. He was just greatly undersized for a 4. Boise has him listed at 6'3", but I always thought he was closer to 6'4". I'm 6'1" and he had a few on me (I could have just shrunk in old age...lol). If he were a few inches taller, he would be able to do a lot more at the DI level. I have played pick up with him and my son went to school with him. His dad was one of the few educators in the school who was good with my son. Heyer wasn't heavily recruited in high school. He mostly received offers from JuCo and DII schools. He was a good kid yough and he must have improved his skill set and handles if Boise has him listed as a G/F. Good for him!

As the Cowboys have established themselves as a Mountain West contender this season, they don't have something the Broncos do - a Wyoming native.

Heyer grew up in Worland, Wyo., and began his career at nearby Sheridan Junior College. He said his dad will lead "a caravan full of people" for the 300-mile drive, and including friends who attend Wyoming, will have about 50 people cheering him on.

"I've never played more than a team camp in that gym. I've always dreamed of playing again in my home state," Heyer said. "It's really cool. Not a lot of people think of basketball when they think of Wyoming. There's very few of us, so I'm excited to represent it a little."

After redshirting last season as a transfer from Division II Texas-Permian Basin, Heyer is averaging 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds a game. He's provided some key baskets at important moments in recent weeks with senior Anthony Drmic shelved for the season.
