Road to MWC Title Game

Well, with OOC play done, and the Pokes being 2-0 in MWC play, it is definitely time to look at the MWC picture.
Wyoming is in the drivers seat right now! 2-0, and in 1st place in the Mtn division.

Wyo @ 2-0
USU and Boise @ 2-1.

What do the Pokes need to do to win the mtn division?

Well take care of CSU, and get the win against SJSU on the road. That won't be easy.
If Wyo beats Fresno, that will be a big step.
I think USU will fall out of the picture shortly without Keaton.

It should be between Boise and Wyoming.
Let's say Boise beat Wyo since it is in Boise.
The Pokes need Boise to lose 1 more MWC game than Wyo from this point on if Boise beats Wyoming.
MWC games Boise COULD lose from here on...maybe against Nevada at home, but I doubt it.
Maybe @ SDSU...I doubt it though.
Wyoming...
I think Wyoming has to beat Boise to go to the title game.

We have a long ways to go, but we are in the drivers seat in the lead.

Yeah we control out own destiny, obviously, but we don't get there without beating Boise and if we drop any other game besides Fresno.

Wyoming really has not played anyone good to this point....or beaten anyone good I should say. This schedule is front-loaded with pasties and back-loaded with tough teams. We knew that coming into the year..... Beat SJSU in California, then we can talk conference titles....beat Fresno, and we can really start talking conference titles. Until then, this is premature IMO. Wyoming is in this position because they have played AFA and UNM....much like UNLV is in 1st in the West because they haven't played anyone yet.

That isn't to say UW can't get there.....only that they are at the bottom of the ladder....slowly climbing up.

CSU is a mediocre test....SJSU at their place is slightly above that....Fresno will be a tough test and @Boise will at a very tough test. Long ways to go before UW is in "the drivers seat".

You're such a rotten fan to point out such realities! You're no daisy...

You nailed it- we're "in the driver's seat" like UNLV in the west. Here's where sh-t gets real, in inclining order of difficulty:

Hawaii (looks very winnable)
CSEwe (they will come to play, make no mistake)
@SJSU (they've underperformed, but are still a dangerous team with very talented QB and strong secondary)
@USU (sure, Keeton's gone, but they're sporting the best defense in the conference AND it's in Logan at the end of November- bad weather could be a serious and adverse issue for our offense)
Fresno (just barely behind BSU here- sure we get them at home, but their offense can blow our defense off the field at this point. With our third quarter woes, they can outscore us handily)
@BSU (we're winless against the Broncos and CP is one of the best coaches in the country, no argument. If it comes down to coaching, we're toast, again)

Fact is, our schedule shakes out pretty unfavorably for us from here on out with the three road games and Fresno. At this point many would wish we'd drawn just about anyone BUT Fresno from the West- UNLV, SDSU, Nevada. If that was the case, then I'd say a 7-win season is likely, but at this point, I'd say it's about an even proposition we get to 6.

Lol okay wyonavian we all know you think Wyoming only wins 2 more games that's why you bet 500 bucks on it.

No one said it was easy boys. Regardless of how we found ourselves in the driver's seat, we're in it.
Exactly. If the season ends now we are in the title game

But that's the thing: it doesn't. Out of its 8 conference games, Wyoming has played unquestionably 2 of their weaker games. 5 tests tougher than New Mexico lay ahead. Like I said, still a long ways to go......and UW cannot trip up anywhere.

Wyoming controls their destiny, but the road won't be easy. We can't afford to blow leads of 21 points going forward. When we get the lead going forward we need to insert the dagger and twist.

If we don't trip, then we're in the title game. Even a loss along the way wouldn't put us out of contention. The key is to take care of business and avoid 3 1/2 hour delays.

Go Pokes!!

Wyoming needs to stay healthy in order for us to compete with the Fresno and Boise teams. Rufran looks like hes only at 75% need him to get healthy quick. Not having Gentry healthy has hurt us a little, although Norman did an outstanding job against New Mexico both catching and blocking. Also we need to eliminate the dropped balls on 3rd down conversions. Cant have that and we will need to play close to perfect offensively to beat both FSU and BSU. Btw does anyone know why Siosi Haliapi'api (sp) has not been on the field much? For a guy that started nine games last year he's been sort of M.I.A. we could use more depth to give our front line a breather.
