Riley Grabau...I have a feeling...

I have a gut feeling that Riley Grabau is about to catch fire. I had to follow the game Saturday night via the GameTracker text feed, so I couldn't help but notice the "missed 3" that kept popping up.

I had a chance to watch the video of the game yesterday, and because I knew the outcome, could do so with a more critical eye.

Riley's shot looks good, His shot selection looks good, and he is just barely missing. A lot of his missed shots were half-way down before panning back out. They say that water eventually finds it level. I think with Riley, that he has been shooting way under his level for a while now, and is due for a hot streak.

We are already hard to beat. If Riley can find his stroke, we will be unstoppable.

I'd like to see him head toward the basket more. He will pick up a lot of fouls, and his ball handling skills should keep defenders from taking it away. He is COMPARATIVELY slow though.

I actually agree with you here. Even though he hasn't proven to be a threat from 3 this year, teams are still scared of letting him get hot. As Bob Knight emphatically stated the other night, Grabau could really benefit from a shot fake, but I hate to see him pass up opportunities to get a 3 point shot out of his hands. Perhaps it'll take knocking down a few shots within the arc to get his stroke going. Also, any way he can get to the free throw line is great.

I've seen him turn it over a number of times trying to take someone off the dribble. When he does get inside he usually does a solid job with the shot or at the line. I think there is no reason for him to attack the Basket against teams with tall defenders unless he is willing to go all out for that foul.

I'd like to see what he could do with a pump fake three, followed by a drive to a mid-range jumper. No need to take it up against the trees every time; hit a few of those mid-range shots and the bigs will have to come out and help on him, leaving Larry or DC open. I guess if it were that easy, though, we would have see more of it already.

Agreed 100% I really wish he had some type of shot fake to open it up.

I guess now I'm going to disagree with myself.

The defenders have to really think he is going to make the three before they commit fully to try to take it away. His shot fake won't work until he proves he can hit the uncontested/lightly contested shot first.

Even though he hasn't made many this year, I think that every defender on every team still knows where Grabau is at all times. They've seen what he can do when he gets hot, and I have a feeling that every team is just waiting for that to happen. His shot, even though it isn't falling right now, is still respected.

I agree he was close to breaking out. He was close to making it a double digit game and not even think about going to OT. Much less double or triple OT.

I agree his shot looks good.. and really should go in.. and is "due".. This is what I see though.. for some reason when someone makes a 3 its like they have the "green" light.. and usually they jack up 1 or 2 more VERY quickly.. with one or both being NOT so good of a selection.. usually rushed off a pick or a guy in a face. Seems to me the "green" light needs to just say great.. your on... but TAKE it anytime you have a good shot. I see this with almost every player that if they get that first one.. its usually followed up with 2 quick 3s that don't go in.. just my opinion.. moral of my story.. TAKE GOOD SHOTS Riley and they will fall.. they just will..

Riley is going to be okay. He's getting his assists, and just as everyone is saying....he is due to hit some big shots. And let's not forget, Riley doesn't need to hit a bunch of FG's to help us win games. He's put away 4 or 5 games this year already....from the stripe. Hmmm.....I was just thinking. Maybe Riley should pursue a career as an NBA free-throw coach. Seriously...
