remaining schedule and our seeding

Thanks to the Broncos beating Nevada and CSU beating Fresno last night, keeping us outta the dreaded play-in game for another day or so:

Remaining Schedules:

Fresno St Mar 2 home vs Air Force
Mar 9 @ UNLV

Nevada Mar 2 home vs UNLV
Mar 6 home vs UNM
Mar 9 @CSU

so from what I hope and can see, we look like we're in the drivers seat for the 7 seed, barring any miracle wins by these 2, but wouldn't that be sweet if on Mar 9 Nevada could get some revenge for that game they almost got in Reno earlier.
hope to be going to the MWC tourney, and that tuesday play-in game just doesn't do much for excitement if we got knocked down to that, but I don't see it happening. still alot of jockeying for position above. maybe we can pull a miracle or 2 in the tourney and also let's start by pulling it at the Pit this weekend, and then against the Sheeeep at home.

oh yeah it'd be cool to see Boise knock off the Sheep in Boise this weekend as well, and Boise beating UNLV on the 6th as well,, and also let Air Force run the remaining schedule as well. man it's fun watching this jockeying stuff

Hate to say it but we need Boise and Nevada to lose to CSU. We can't afford to give UNLV the 2 seed instead of the Sheep. Our chances in a rivalry game on a neutral court are WAY better than they are against UNLV at home. Anything can happen in a rivalry game, especially when it ends up being 2 games back-to-back.

So this is a crazy thought...but you know the whole..."It's hard to beat a team 3 times in one season" thing in college hoops?
What if we get the 8/9 game, win the play in, think we have a chance against NM? Of course, our next game against NM will be the teller if we really do have a chance...but hypothetically...let's say we lose to NM in The Pit by a few points, and end up in the 8/9 game. We have more time off before the MWC tourney before anyone else so we will be getting ready for it sooner...
I know it's crazy to want the bottom seed but, I actually don't think beating NM in Vegas is too far fetched.
Except for the fact that they pack the T&M for Tourney.

And if we did pull that out...I would be hoping that we gt AFA in the next round.

I was thinking about this. What if we lose to CSU the last game of the season in Laramie and then get them again right away in the conference tourney. I think we have a good shot at beating them possibly and then maybe getting either Air Force or Boise St. in the semifinals who I think we match up with either one of them and have a good shot to beat them. That puts us in the championship game and you never know what will happen once you get into it.

It may sound far fetched to some but I would not be surprised if we made it to the chapionship game if we were able to play either Air Force or Boise St. in the semifinals since they have already beat us twice. As bad as Wyoming has played at times they are still dangerous when everyone is fully healthy, especially on a neutral court.

If you toss a coin 2 times and it comes up heads both times, are the chances high that it will come up tails the next toss? No.
If Joe beats Bill three times in the 100 meter freestyle swim, is the chance high that Bill beats Joe the fourth meeting?
No.

Why is a basketball matchup different?

But if you were betting that heads came up three times in a row, that would be different

It's a lot different than flipping a coin and it is also a lot different than swimming. That analogy isn't even close to the same thing. It would be one thing if it was a top 5 team playing one of the crappiest teams in their conference for the 3rd time. Yeah, they would probably beat them again.

Wyoming is a lot closer in talent to Boise St. or Air Force so playing them for the third time it won't be a given that Wyoming will lose again. Could they lose again for the third time? Yes , of course. I will agree that if it were CSU or New Mexico then Wyoming probably loses for the third time but against AFA or BSU I think Wyoming wins. Wyoming will need an upset in the first round to get a possible chance at it though.

Teams don't usually beat teams 3 times in a season the majority of the time unless they are one of the top teams in the country playing someone really horrible.

i really can't see us dropping to the play-in, unless they (nevada, fresno) get extremely hot, they've got a hard road ahead of them

After watching some video of our first game with CSU I just cannot visualize the Pokes beating them
this next game or even coming close.

CSU thoroughly humiliated the boys and the boys humiliated themselves.

Pokes had a super soft schedule this year to create confidence amongst the troops by creating wins and allowing the young
guys to play in order to develop a bench. It was not a bad concept because we developed confidence, but not a bench because almost all the cream puffs required that our starters play to the last second to pull off come from behind wins.

I'm not familiar with our 2013 schedule, but it will be interesting to see how we approach this issue next year.

I thought the same thing after we destroyed them last year.
