I've talked to this kid (his name is James Caraway) three times. He really likes Wyoming. In fact, during his senior season, he was disappointed because Bryan Applewhite (our RB coach) hadn't stayed in touch with him much since this summer. What he didn't know was that Applewhite had been calling his high school coach. One of our coaches went down there and offered him recently.
Last time I talked to him, he said that even if Wyoming offered, he was going to wait a bit before he made his final decision. I don't think he ought to wait too long because as far as I know, UW's the only school that has offered him. It would be a shame if somebody else committed and there wasn't an offer left on the table for him up here.
He's a bit underrated, IMO, and that's a good thing for us. We are definitely recruiting him as a cornerback, although he had a much better year at RB this season than at CB. He has been clocked at 4.3 one time, and he also has a 40-inch verticle. The problem is that he never played CB in his life until his senior year, so the transition kept him from getting any interceptions. He said he was close on quite a few but never came up with any.
His high school team sucked this year, and they ended up like 3-7 or something. That puts him even further under the radar, but I was glad to see we offered. I think he has the potential to become a Julius Stinson-type corner with even more speed. Don't know yet if he has the nose for the ball that Julius has, but I hope he commits.
