Recruiting Question

Given our struggles on offense on Saturday, I'm wondering why we are staring so many freshman receivers. This is year 4 for Bohl and company, what has been going on in regards to recruiting? I'm a big Bohl supporter, but we didn't seem to be able to reload after losing last year's seniors. Why the lack of suitable replacements? We know guys are gone in four years. Doesn't seem like we had a succession plan.

Part of it is that we don't have any JuCo receivers, part of it is just because we had so many very good seniors, there wasn't much playing time to spread among others...

On top of that, we obviously have one of our top receiver threats injured as well. I think the group will be fine with a bit more experience, though.

On the other hand, it sure would've been nice to have a couple of huge receivers on the team for mismatches. I don't believe we have anybody right now who's ready to play (Scott and Dumas come to mind).

In addition to what Asmodeanreborn said, we had very good seniors and this wasn't an immediate recruiting need, also very little minutes to go around. Bohl knew he needed to sure up the O-line and defense first specifically D-line, and corner backs. We have good depth at WR albeit young and inexperienced.

On top of this, we had two of our top WRs out (injured) for the Iowa game. I think I would give Josh about a quarter to give the new WRs some experience catching his passes this Saturday and then rest him and give Smith some in-game experience.
