Realistic Expectations for 2014

With a new coach on board and plenty of talent to utilize how well do we do next year. Do we come close to accomplishing what we should have this year? We have 2 huge OOC games, are we going to be competitive in those? Lots of questions I know but just looking for everyone elses expectations.

With things as they were, I was thinking a 2 win season, losing all 4 OOC games. With a new coach, hopefully a new attitude, and a handful of fixes on the defensive side of the ball, I would be overjoyed with 6 wins. It'll be hard to get a read on things until they get together in the spring.

I think we will be bowling for sure and would not be terribly surprised if we end up with 8 or 9 wins. The main ingredient missing this season was coaching. We have good athletes, we have good position players, we have enough talent on D to be respectable. I think Bohl brings a level of enthusiasm and coaching that we rebound strong and have a really good year.

It is hard to gauge considering the current makeup of the roster. A 6 win season considering the schedule would have to be considered a relatively reaslistic expectation.

Although, I think we have the potential on the roster for an 8 or 9 win regular season if the transition goes well!

7-5!!!! but imagine if we pull the "huge" upset against the likes of an Oregon or Michigan St, wow, then we'll see what that does for a boost for confidence

I agree totally! I saw way to many times where the coach was coaching not to lose instead of to win. He was sooo damn conservative at times it made me sick. His best coached game was a loss. Against Nebraska at least the team was playing their hearts out the whole time knowing they had a chance. His play calling seemed to change drastically as the season wore on.

haha thanks

I really don't think we're all that talented. A handful of guys are as talented as we've had in a while but overall....nope. Fresno/Boise/USU showed that.

I think the talent is hidden and was never really coached up to the level it could have been, I also think that it is entirely possible Bohl will have a good first season like Christensen had if the training is done properly in the off season.

Maybe, I just have visions of us trying to tackle and unless Bohl spends 2 hours a day on pure tackling fundamentals, I don't see it getting mind blowingly better.

For the money, I expect to go bowling. I never have liked the fact that teams can go to a bowl game without a winning record, but if it must be... Since I expect a winning record, I'll take 2-2 OOC and 5-3 MW. Guess we'll wait and see.

If we had another team for OOC play since we play @ Hawaii I expect 8-6.
7-6 regular season, and a bowl win.

If we add another FCS team, only one of those FCS wins counts towards our bowl eligibility.
If we play 13 games, we need 7-6 to go bowling. With those two combined, do we need to go 8-5 to become bowl eligible?
Or would it just count as 6-6 overall in terms of eligibility? Obviously, our record would really be 7-6, but 1 win wouldn't count for eligibilty.

2014 Schedule:
OOC:
vs. Montana
@ Oregon
@ Michigan State
vs. Florida Atlantic

MWC:
vs. AFA
vs. Boise St.
vs. SJSU
vs. Utah State
@ Colorado State
@ Fresno State
@ Hawaii
@ New Mexico

13th game if added? vs. low level FBS or FCS

I would like to think that we could pull of some upsets, like Boise, or Fresno.
But there will probably be some growing pains, dropping games we shouldn't like Hawaii or NM.

Wins: Montana, FAU, AFA, SJSU, Boise, NM, Hawaii, CSU
Losses: Oregon, Michigan State, Fresno St., Utah State

13th game? Win.
9-4, bowl game, 10-4.

What kind of prediction page would it be if I didn't predict something unrealistic?

Now go ahead and rip me apart old timers for accepting mediocrity.

I'd honestly be happy just seeing them play better as the year progresses. But, a 7-5 year with a win over CSU would make me very, very happy!

5-7. Tough schedule and a transition year.
+1 That physical brand of football won't just appear over night. Wyoming got destroyed by physical teams in 2013. This will take time for Bohl. A bowl game would be a massive success.
