Interested to see how we all measure quality wins and quality seasons? Obviously a ten win season would meet most peoples expectations but what if a team reaches 8 wins? If you only reach 8 wins is your season a failure if you lose a bowl, is 7 wins a success with a bowl win? Again, it is obvious that we all want a conference championship every year, but only select few programs in the country consistently do that ( Alabama doesn't even win their conf every year), so what makes a quality year?
What about quality wins? Is it beating a team with a winning record? Is it beating a rival?
To me a quality season is beating rivals and getting at least 8 wins. However beating a rival if the game doesn't mean anything probably isn't a quality win. A great season would be a conference championship. A quality win would be beating a winning team, and a higher than quality win would be beating an 8 win team. I'm not sure if beating a bcs team counts as a quality win if that team is awful. To me that is just stating that bcs teams are better and seems small time. I also feel that bowl wins should probably fall somewhere in the quality win category.
For a comparison of coaches doc has 4 quality wins including a bowl win. Joe Glenn had 4 quality wins including a bowl win ( I could debate the va games as better than quality). Joe tiller had two quality wins. However, Tiller had two exceptional ( better than quality) seasons in which he had 10 wins or won a conf. Championship. Also, several of his wins held more significance because of competing for a championship.
The argument could be made that joe Glenn's win over byu and csu his first year were quality wins as well, because of the state of the football program.
