QB Change? Now's the Time.

If we believe in the "Take one game at a time" philosophy, then Coach must play the player that gives the team the best chance to win the next game. Coach seems convinced that he is doing that.

As for those who argue against playing those who put their time in--if they are really putting in quality time, then guys who have been working and getting better for 4-5 years should bring maturity, understanding, and other intangibles to the the table that a fresh 19-year-old cannot bring. Which coach was it that used to talk about how a player should be better in year 5 than in year 1. Playing kids without redshirting them essentially gives up year 5 for year 1.

I also think that what we see with Patrick Mertens in Year 6 helps demonstrate the benefits of playing 22+ year olds over the 18-19 year olds.

Well, this has been a pretty good thread. I didn't say he shouldn't stay the starter, I just thought it was time to give someone else a little playing time. My question was based on the expectation that there will not be a bowl game.

If I knew with absolute certainty that a 6-6 season would get us a bowl, then I'm all in for Colby getting all the reps this off week. A bowl bid gives a chance for the other QB's quite a bit more practice opportunity.

We've nearly exhausted this thread, so I'll see if another thread can concoct a way for WYO to get a bid.

Always appreciate another POV. While many didn't agree with you, still appreciate the discussion, keep it coming.

I mentioned somewhere - in another thread I think...

But I would have (no...Coach McPeachy would have) run Tommy boy into the game for a few series here and there, starting in week one. And certainly would have given him increased exposure vs. Oregon & Michigan State. I think that experience would be invaluable to the program, and would have aided in the development of Colby as well. Plus it certainly wouldn't have hurt having a mobile QB run the read (as Colby has done a few times).
